3 Instruction manual for dyras aquafilter vacuum cleaner NOTES Please read the instruction manual thoroughly before using your new appliance. It is important to keep these instructions as a useful reminder that ll help you enjoy the many features available. The manufacturer is not responsible if the appliance becomes damaged or defective as a result of the user not following the information included in the instruction manual. If the appliance becomes faulty during regular use, it should only be repaired by an authorised service engineer. IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION The following safety instructions must be followed when using the appliance. Please read this section very carefully! Of course, it s not possible for us to anticipate or provide safety rules for every specific situation, so we ask you to apply commonsense precautions when using the appliance in a situation that isn t described below. This appliance has been designed for household use only, no other (heavy duty) uses are permitted. Never use the appliance outdoors. This device is not supposed to be used by physically or mentally handicapped people, or persons without experience or knowledge (including children, as well), unless such a person supervises or guides their use of the device, who is at the same time responsible for their safety. As for children, supervision is recommended to make sure that they do not play with the device. This device is not supposed to be used by children under the age of 14, not even with supervision! Never use an appliance or accessory that the manufacturer did not supply with or propose for use with the appliance. The use of such appliances might lead to accidents or irregular function. Don t put the appliance near hot objects (e.g. oven, hob, heating appliance etc.) or on any hot surface. Don t place the appliance anywhere it could slide down, fall or be knocked off accidentally. that using or storing the appliance in certain conditions may adversely affect its lifespan and functionality. Always protect the appliance from the conditions listed below. Using or storing the appliance in a wet, humid or damp environment can cause: deterioration and premature aging of the cover and electric insulation of the appliance, premature wearing and aging of the plastic and rubber components, rust and corrosion affecting electrical components and metal parts. Using the appliance in a dusty environment or in the kitchen (where the air may be contaminated with vapours from cooking oil or grease) can cause greasy dust coatings on the mechanical and electrical elements and the casing of the appliance, which could result in electrical contact failure or even complete breakdown, and could also damage the plastic and rubber elements. The effects of direct sunlight on the appliance can include: accelerated deterioration of the appliance casing and its plastic and rubber components, damage to strength and other structural features. The appliance s surface may become porous and fragile, which may result in a safety risk. Continuous heavy duty use may cause: premature structural wear and tear and premature aging of the motor due to extensive use of the appliance, resulting from wear and tear and overheating due to continuous use. HEPA filters to require replacement after becoming become saturated with dirt. A blocked filter can allow dust inside the machine, which will damage the motor. EN Don t use the appliance in the presence of explosive or inflammable gases, vapours or liquids. The use of the appliance must be avoided in areas where the temperature is too high or too low or where the appliance is subject to vibrations. Avoid using the appliance under wet or vaporous conditions. The appliance can be used within the temperature range of +10 C to +35 C and stored within the range of +5 C to +40 C. Dear Customer, In order to increase the useful life of the appliance and prevent inefficient use, avoid the occurrence of the above faults and always follow the instructions of the operating manual; failure to observe the above will constitute improper operation for which the manufacturer will not be liable. It is recommended that the appliance is checked by an authorised service engineer at regular intervals even if no defects are detected - in this way a potential defect can be corrected at an early stage, increasing the useful life of the appliance. Please respect the environment when the appliance reaches the end of its life. The appliance is designed to be operated and stored in a situation where temperatures are between +5 and +40 Celsius. Do not use the appliance in a wet or humid environment. If your appliance is damaged or operates in an abnormal way, immediately stop using it and take it to an authorised service engineer for checking, repair or adjustment. The manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from excessive use, inappropriate handling, inadequate maintenance, failure to follow guidance in the instruction manual or wear and tear from regular use. In addition, the manufacturer is not liable for damage resulting from any part of the appliance being broken or cracked. Ensure the appliance is kept well-ventilated; do not allow anything to cover or block the ventilation holes. The appliance has only been designed for indoor use at home. Any other application, including commercial or professional use, is not permitted. You must not use the appliance outdoors under any circumstances. Warning! Unplug the appliance from the plug when not in use. Before unplugging the power cable, switch off the appliance then pull out the power cable from the wall (or extension) socket. In order to avoid electric shock, never immerse the appliance in water or any other liquid. Never touch the appliance with wet hands. Never allow the wall socket to become wet. You must have dry hands when you plug the mains connector into the wall socket and when you unplug it. If any moisture gets inside the appliance, immediately stop using it and take it to a service engineer for checking or repair. After use and before cleaning, always disconnect the appliance from the mains. Never do this by pulling on the cable; always take hold of the plug and pull out of the socket. Switch off the appliance before disconnecting it from the mains. Never lay the mains cable beside or across sharp edges or hot surfaces. Never wrap the mains cable around the cover of the appliance, do not pull the cable and do not lift the appliance with the mains cable because the cable can break or the insulation can be damaged. A damaged cable must be replaced by an authorised service engineer. The appliance must not be used or connected to a wall socket if the cable is damaged. Never slide or lift up the appliance by pulling on its power cable. Warning! Disassembling the appliance, opening the casing or attempting to repair it at home are forbidden - non compliance with this instruction might result in serious accidents. The inside of the appliance does not contain any parts that can be repaired at home or used for any other purpose. Never use the appliance with damaged power cable or connector, if operation is erratic or if it was dropped and is otherwise damaged. If the appliance has become faulty for any reason or moisture has got inside the casing, take it to an authorised service engineer for checking or repair. Only skilled experts are authorised to repair the appliance. The manufacturer is not liable for damages if home repair has been attempted or the instructions in the operating manual have not been complied with. Attention! Never leave the appliance connected to the mains when it is unattended. Never disconnect the appliance from the mains by pulling on the cable; always hold the plug itself. To avoid overloading your electricity supply, please don t use the appliance at the same time as any other high-power device (e.g. a kettle or heater) in the same socket or on the same mains circuit. Always take care to avoid straining the electric cable, never drag or lift the appliance by the power cable as it could be torn off or damaged. For the same reason prevent the power cable from getting under the feet of chairs or other furniture. When you have finished using the appliance, always switch it off and remove the mains plug from the wall socket or extension cable. The appliance has only been designed for domestic use as described in this instruction manual. Any other application, including commercial or professional use, is not permitted. You should use an industrial machine if you need to clean a large or heavily-soiled area. Do not use the appliance outside or in areas that are particularly humid, such as bathrooms. Do not allow any moisture on the cover or inside the appliance (except for the water tank). Do not use the cable winder unless the power cable is unplugged from the wall socket otherwise you could damage the cable, the plug or the socket. Always rewind the power cable when you ve finished using the appliance. Never wind the cable by hand. Don t wrap the cable around the appliance as this can damage it by weakening the insulation. Don t plug the machine into the mains socket until you re ready to start cleaning. Always switch the machine off and unplug it from the mains socket when you ve finished using it or want to remove/replace an accessory. You should never leave the cleaner unattended when it s plugged in. EN Always keep a safe distance from the suction head, from the end of the extending tube, from the goose-neck 6 7

5 connection on the machine and from other openings and moving parts of the machine. Do not move any of the suction pipes or accessories near your face or eyes. The manufacturer is not liable for any damage resulting from careless handling, from incorrect maintenance or cleaning, from negligence or from ignoring any instructions in this manual. In addition, the manufacturer is not liable for accessories or consumable parts that will need to be replaced as the result of normal wear and tear, including special filters and the flexible goose-neck pipe. Always take care when using the vacuum cleaner. Avoid sharp movements or suddenly dragging the machine. The cover of the machine could break or crack if it hits furniture (and could also damage the furniture). The manufacturer is not liable for this type of damage. Lift the cleaner over steps and other uneven surfaces to avoid damaging the cover or the rollers. Any damage caused by ignoring this guidance is excluded from the manufacturer s warranty. Do not extend the power cable or change the plug. The 5m fitted cable should be sufficient for general household use. If you need a longer cable between the appliance and the wall socket, you should buy a standard extension cord from an electrical dealer. The extension cable should have a capacity of at least 16A because smaller cables can become hot during use. Always unwind the power cable fully before using it; a partially-unwound cable can become hot when used. Take care when using the power cable (or an extension cable) to avoid creating a hazard that you or someone else could trip over. Avoid placing the cable in passageways and make sure it doesn t become stretched around furniture legs. Before use, always unwind the vacuum cleaner power cable to the yellow mark. A red section of cable will appear if you pull too far. Do not unwind or rewind the cable when the appliance is plugged in to the mains. If you find you haven t unwound enough cable, unplug the appliance before unwinding any more. Never over-fill the water tank. Make sure the water is not higher than the Water Level marking on the tank. Failure to follow these instructions will cause water to overflow inside the appliance, damaging the HEPA filter. Only use the vacuum cleaner on horizontal floors. Never place it on a slope; this could cause water to spill inside the appliance, resulting in an electrical short-circuit. Never use the appliance when holding it above the ground. Always clean the water tank after each use. Pour out the waste and remove larger pieces of dirt from the filter basket. Clean the tank and basket as described in this manual. After cleaning, allow all parts to dry before replacing them. The tank should be stored in the vacuum cleaner; make sure it is completely dry to avoid the formation of mildew. You should also check the HEPA filter to see if it needs replacing. If the filter is wet, remove it and dry it thoroughly before storing it or using it again. If the inlet becomes blocked or suction power is suddenly reduced, switch off the appliance immediately and unplug it from the mains. Investigate the problem when the appliance is safely unplugged. When using the vacuum cleaner, always maintain a safety distance of at least 1m between the cleaner and any container filled with water. Please keep this instruction manual. If you give the appliance to anyone else, you must give them this instruction manual, too! Never pull the appliance by its power cable. Do not use the vacuum cleaner on hot ash, cigarette stubs or any highly flammable material. This is likely to cause serious damage to the appliance. Similarly, do not use it to clean chemicals, acids or solvents. Do not use the vacuum cleaner on sharp items (nails, drawing pins, needles, screws etc), on paint, on adhesive or on building materials (e.g. cement or debris). Do not use the vacuum cleaner to remove water or other liquids. Do not attempt to put your fingers or any other objects into the openings on the cover. Do not use the vacuum cleaner when the air outlet on the side is blocked or when the flow of air is restricted. Do not use or store the appliance in a dusty room; keep it away from animal hair and other fibres that could block the flow of air. Only use cold tap water to fill the water tank. Air outlet connector POWER SUPPLY The appliance should only be connected to 230V~ 50Hz electrical mains. Always verify that the mains voltage at the place of use is the same as the voltage indicated in the rating label on the appliance. 1. Make sure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged. Lift the water tank cover lock (13) and remove the water tank. 2. Use the water tank grip (8) to remove the water tank and filter unit together, then remove the filter unit (20) from the water tank. 3. Fill the water tank with cold tap water up to the Water Level mark on the front of the tank. Take care not to over-fill the water tank. Over-filling the tank can cause moisture or dirt to damage the HEPA filter at the bottom of the appliance. If the outside of the tank or the appliance is wet, wipe it with a dry cloth. 4. Reattach the filter unit to the water tank and place them in the vacuum cleaner. Replace the water tank cover, ensuring all three ears fit in the appropriate openings and the lock clicks in place when the cover is closed. Do not force the cover as any damage to the lock or the ears will not be covered by the manufacturer s warranty. USING OF APPLIANCE Assembling and preparing the vacuum cleaner Unpack the appliance and remove all the packing materials. Inspect the appliance and the accessories carefully to verify their soundness and undamaged condition. Only perfectly sound and damage-free appliances may be connected to the electrical mains. Never leave the nylon packing bag, which is part of the package, within the reach of children who could play with it. Attaching accessories Attaching the goose-neck pipe to the cleaner: connect the end of the pipe into the round inlet on the vacuum cleaner so the lock at the end of the pipe is upwards. Please note that the goose-neck pipe can only be fixed in this one position. EN 10 11

7 Attaching the extending metal pipe to the grip: push the upper end of the extending pipe into the grip on the goose-neck pipe until it clicks and locks in place. Changing the handle length: push the lock on the extending metal pipe in the direction of the arrow marked on it, then pull the internal telescopic pipe to the length you require. Releasing the lock will fix the internal pipe at the appropriate length. The spring on the lock will hold the telescopic pipe in place. Attaching accessories to the handle: select the appropriate suction head for your cleaning task, then attach it to the free end of the extending metal pipe. Fix it in place by pushing the end of the metal pipe into the connecting hole on the attachment until it clicks in place. Make sure the power switch on the vacuum cleaner is in the OFF position. Unwind the power cable fully - up to the yellow mark on the cable - and then plug the cable into a mains socket. Do not unwind the cable to the red mark; this is a safety measure to prevent the cable from being pulled out of the cleaner. power level is indicated by a series of lights, with the number of lights increasing as the suction power increases. Suction power can also be adjusted by using the sliding control (3) on the grip. To reduce suction, pull the control backwards with your finger. Suction returns to its full level when the switch is in the forward position. 3. Using the double-function wide suction head Always activate the integral brushes on the suction head when cleaning floor areas with a hard surface (e.g. tile, parquet or plastic flooring). These are extended by pressing the switch on top of the suction head with your hand. Do not use the suction head on hard surfaces without extending the brushes; polished flooring can be damaged by the attachment, while stone tiles can cause wear to the suction head. When cleaning carpets, ensure the brushes are retracted inside the suction head. Cleaning carpets with the brushes extended can cause damage if the brush becomes entangled with fluff or with strands of carpet. Notes: Warning! This vacuum cleaner is NOT designed for cleaning away liquids. Only use a dedicated wet/dry cleaner for removing liquids. It is also important not to over-fill the water tank. Regularly monitor the amount of dust and water in the tank to avoid exceeding the Max Dirt Level marking. If necessary, unplug the appliance and rinse the tank several times. Refill it according to the instructions before continuing your work. Notes: Do not rewind the power cable unless the vacuum cleaner is unplugged from the mains socket. To rewind the cable, hold the cable with one hand and press the cable rewinder (12) with the other. Guide the cable through the gap in the cover to avoid any damage. Do not rewind the cable without slowing the process by hand; failing to do this can overload the rewinding mechanism, damage the cable or result in the plug bumping into surrounding items with considerable force. Using the vacuum cleaner 1. Switching on Gently press the power switch (11) with your hand, not by foot. The motor will start and the low-power suction will begin. Pressing the power switch again will stop the motor. 2. Suction power increase and decrease These controls enable suction power to be adjusted between four levels: low, medium, high and turbo. Use the + control (10a) to increase suction power and the - control (10b) to reduce the power. Each Take care to avoid lightweight or fragile items and pieces of furniture. Using the narrow suction head with brush This suction head is designed for cleaning between furniture in places where a wider attachment won t fit. 5. Using the crevice suction head The crevice tool can be used in two ways. If the brush is turned onto the end of the attachment, it s possible to clean edges, corners and narrow gaps (e.g. drawers, vents and under/behind furniture). EN 12 13

8 If the brush is turned outwards as shown in the diagram, the tool can be used for cleaning delicate surfaces (e.g. curtains, shelves and books). 3. Dismantle the filter unit as follows: Carefully pull back the lock that holds the filter frame in place, then lift off the frame. 6. Using the narrow suction head This suction head is designed for cleaning carpeted areas (e.g. between furniture) that cannot be accessed by the wider attachment. 7. Using the air blower function To use the air blower, insert the goose-neck pipe into the round outlet hole (22) on top of the water tank cover. Remove, wash and rinse all the components of the filter unit. Ensure they are completely dry before reassembling them. Take care to adjust and position the components correctly when reassembling them. Make sure the filter cartridge is correctly held in place by the filter frame. Notes: You can remove stubborn dirt with a gentle liquid detergent. Rinse the components thoroughly afterwards. MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING Replacing the HEPA filter Warning! Before you clean the appliance it must be switched off and the mains plug must be removed from the wall socket. Clean the outside cover of the appliance with a damp, soft, lint-free cloth and then wipe the cleaned surfaces with a dry lint-free cloth. Take care not to allow any moisture inside the cover. Let the appliance dry completely before re-using or storing it. When cleaning the appliance, never use solvent (acetone, benzole, petrol, alcohol, etc.) as these may solve the casing material, or the internal parts of the appliance if they get into. Do not use cleaning agents with coarse or grinding effect. Maintenance and cleaning the filter unit 1. After use, always empty the waste water from the tank before cleaning the tank and the filter unit. 2. Remove the water tank as described in the assembling and preparing section. Remove the filter unit (20) and empty the tank. Wash it thoroughly by hand, using lukewarm water with a gentle liquid detergent, then rinse it with clean water from the cold tap. Finally, dry it thoroughly. A dramatic reduction in suction power is usually an indication that the HEPA filter will need replacing. Only replace the filter when the machine is unplugged. Remove the cover of the HEPA filter from the bottom of the appliance by pressing both locking buttons at the same time. Notes: The filter tank will need to be replaced if it has become wet or dirty as a result of overfilling. If the tank has a small amount of moisture it should be removed and dried thoroughly before being stored or used again. EN 14 15

9 Warning! Only original HEPA filters purchased from authorised dealers should be used. The manufacturer s warranty does not cover the replacement of used filters. If you don t plan to use the vacuum cleaner for a while, store it in a dry, dust-free and frost-free place. Do not wind the power cable around the appliance as this can cause the insulation to weaken or break. Always use the integrated cable holder.
