NOTIFICATION OF APPLICATION FOR ERASMUS INTENSIVE PROGRAMME SEE ME! IN BARCELONA, SPAIN 11-23.5.2014 The IP programme See me! includes 8 higher education institutions in 6 different European countries bringing together 52 students and 10 teachers from different disciplines. The countries represent the disparity of Europe from the point of socio-economy and culture. The collaboration between different organizations (NGOs, schools, employment services) and higher education institutes is one of the key elements in See me! since the IP students will be practicing the skills in creative methods and socio-cultural approach with "real clients", meaning members of the target groups. The main objective of the IP is to enhance students' competencies in working in partnership, in multicultural settings with different kind of clientele. The target groups in the IP are youngsters (drop-outs), immigrant youth and unemployed youngsters - in respective years of the implementation. The IP is targeted to various of degree programmes (social work/social pedagogy, health care, art therapy, education and special education) and the students will work in multidisciplinary and multicultural groups. The aim is that different competencies are combined in the situation analysis as well as in collaborative work with target groups. The pedagogical approach in the IP is action learning. The core theme in See me! is to develop theoretical knowledge, practical skills and professional attitudes to work in collaboration with client groups using creative and sociocultural methods. SEE ME! is an Erasmus Intensive Programme which is organized in a partnership with eight universities in Europe: Tampere University of Applied Sciences (coordinator) and Hämeenlinna University of Applied Sciences from Finland, University of Pablo de Olavide and Autonomous University of Barcelona from Spain, Kaunas University of Applied Sciences from Lithuania, Nordhausen University of Applied Sciences from Germany, HAN University of Applied Sciences from Holland and ELTE University from Hungary. Objectives The objective of the IP is to study comparatively the situation and life challenges of different youth groups (drop outs, young immigrants, unemployed youngsters) in partner countries and to compare the services provided for these groups. The general theme of the IP is to study how to stop and intervene with the starting social exclusion process in education and in labour market. What are the 1
solutions found in partner countries and what can we learn from them? How is the situation different or similar? What do the youngsters themselves feel and how they see their situation and needs? The comparative study is done used both statistical information and literature but also via case studies and small surveys to have comparative data. During the actual IP the students work with local partners (community groups, NGOs, public service providers - depending on the country) to study new and innovative working methods used in practice (study visits). The second half of the IP concentrates on interaction with the client group via different creative methods (e.g. drama, social media, photography, art, dance, music) in workshops led by teachers. The skills learned are put in practice in the joint event with target group members for a one day event "See me!" with different kind of performances and exhibitions. The objective is that the students learn not only theoretically and "on paper" but actually learn how to work with the client group and how creative methods can be used in practice as a working tool. The ultimate objective is also that by the IP the participating organizations and youngsters will have an international learning experience as well and their world becomes "See me!" via the activity day. Target groups The IP brings together students from 8 universities to study creative and innovative methods through experience-based and collaborative methods of team learning. The IP is targeted for undergraduate and postgraduate students in social and health care, special education and youth work, art and media. Main activities IP is a 6 ECTS course which includes preparatory work, theoretical and practical studies and project work during two weeks (10 days) and reflective reporting after the course. The preparatory work contains a situation analysis of each country a) on the social situation of the target group (drop outs in 2012-2013, young immigrants and young unemployed in 2013-2014) by statistics and case studies b) on the services available for social inclusion of the particular target group and working methods used. The contact studies during the two week course include presentations by students, lectures, study visits and workshops in creative methods and a joint planning and implementation of the activity day with participants of the target group to advocate the groups' situation, their wishes and dreams and also their skills and talents. The day also includes also students' presentations of their comparative studies. The hosting country as well as the focus field change each year, thus first theme drop outs (Finland), secondly young immigrants and unemployed youngsters (Spain). Expected learning outcomes for the participating students will include (but not be limited to): Students have comparative knowledge and understanding on the situation of target group, their situation and services in partner countries Students have improved their skills in working in multidisciplinary and multicultural team 2
Students have gained skills in working by using creative methods in working with clients and are able to work in an equal partnership with them Students have improved reflection skills and are able to apply gained experience in work with other client groups The total credits of the course amounts to 6 ECTS. The application period is open until 05.11.2013. From our institute (ELTE BGGYK) 8 students will be selected to participate. The selection criteria are as follows: 1. Good level of English (working language of the course), 2. Interest in creative methods and objectives of IP, 3. Minimum of being a second year student in social work or disability studies and 4. Suitability of the IP for the degree programme (e.g. social work/social pedagogy/art therapy/crafts and recreation. The students are supported from the IP programme (travel and accommodation costs, subsistence costs: breakfast and lunches during the school days and cultural evening/excursion programme).
