THE TEAMS: Arkansas State travels to Norman at 4-3, having lost two straight. The Lady Indians were defeated at Oklahoma State Nov 29, and lost at Washington in the finals of the Husky Classic Nov. 25. Oklahoma enters Sunday s game at 3-2, having won its last three. The Sooners opened the season against #3 Maryland and #1 Tennessee, and will take the court Sunday afternoon ranked ninth nationally in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today polls. THE SERIES: Oklahoma leads the series 2-1. The two teams have not met since the season when the Sooners defeated Arkansas State to win the National Women s Invitation Tournament championship in Amarillo, Texas. ASU s victory over Oklahoma came during the season, when the Lady Indians defeated the Sooners in Jonesboro. Oklahoma opened the series with a victory over ASU in Norman during the season. THE COACHES: Arkansas State Head Coach Brian Boyer is in his ninth season as the Lady Indian head coach. Boyer holds a career record of at ASU, and has directed the Lady Indians to the Women s National Invitation Tournament four times, including three of the past four years. SCOUTING THE SOONERS: The Sooners are led by 2007 Associated Press Player of the Year Courtney Paris, who is currently riding a streak of 66 consecutive games in which she has posted a double-double. The 6-4 junior is averaging 16.2 points and 15.4 rebounds per game, while her twin sister Ashley, a 6-3 forward, is averaging 15.6 points and 6.4 rebounds. Freshman guard Danielle Robinson adds 12.8 points, 4.0 assists and 2.8 steals per game. As a team, the Sooners average 21.0 turnovers, 11.2 steals and 5.8 blocks per game, while holding a rebounding advantage over their opponents. 3 to Ole Miss during the season, ASU defeated Ole Miss in , then defeated Mississippi State and Arkansas in the Women s National Invitation Tournament in the season. In the season, the Lady Indians opened the season with a win over Alabama. HOME SWEET HOME: The Lady Indians have won over 70 percent (77-31) of their games at the ASU Convocation Center under Head Coach Brian Boyer. Over the last four years, the Tribe has lost just eight times on its home court, posting a winning percentage of.859 during that time (49-8). The Lady Indians are currently riding a 7-game win streak at the ASU Convocation Center, and have won 15 of the last 16 games on their home court. CRINER DELIVERS: In her first start as a Lady Indian, true freshman Angie Criner led all scorers with 17 points in ASU s victory over Alabama Nov. 18. Criner shot 6-of-11 from the field, 2-of-2 from behind the 3-point line, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Criner Criner also added four steals and six rebounds to the box score in 25 minutes of play. Her shot shooting continued against Missouri State Nov. 20 as she hit 6-of-11 shots from the field, including a 2-of-3 effort from 3-point land. Criner led the Lady Indians with 14 points in the game. The freshman from Jenks Oklahoma came through again for the Lady Indians in the Nov Washington Husky Classic, scoring 19 points in ASU s opening-round victory over Weber State, and 12 in the Lady Indians loss to Washington in the championship game. Criner was named to the all-tournament team following Sunday s final. JAZZIN IT UP: Sophomore point guard Jazmine Taylor continues to be productive for the Lady Indians in her role as starting point guard. Taylor is the only Lady Indian to have started every game this season, and last Taylor week set a new personal career high with six steals in the Tribe s win over Missouri State. She also matched her career-high assist mark in the game, dishing out six on the night. In ASU s three games last week, Taylor logged 14 assists and 11 steals while adding 14 points and 12 rebounds. MORE JAZZ: After matching her career-high with six assists against Missouri State Nov. 20, Taylor topped that number with seven during the Lady Indians game at Oklahoma State Nov. 29. Starr sank two from long range in the first minute of the second half, then added another later in the game to give the Lady Indians their first 20-point lead in the win. Starr got hot again in the second half of ASU s Nov. 25 game at Washington, draining five 3-pointers in the final 20 minutes to finish with a season-high 17 points. EB & FLOW: Sophomore guard Ebonie Jefferson got into the flow of the game in the Nov. 9 season opener at South Dakota State, setting new career highs in points, field goals and field goal attempts. Jefferson scored nine points on 4- of-6 shooting and also notched the first Jefferson steal and assist of her career. Jefferson s strong play continued against Brigham Young as she again scored a career high - finishing with 13 points. Jefferson also grabbed a career-high six rebounds against the Cougars. HURST HURTING: Freshman guard Shania Ne-Ne Hurst will not play this season after suffering a torn ACL in her left knee during ASU s exhibition victory over Ouachita Baptist Nov. 5. Hurst scored 16 points in the Lady Indians win over Harding in the Tribe s opening exhibition game. LAST TIME OUT: STILLWATER, Okla. ( ) Five players scored in double figures to lead the Oklahoma State Cowgirls to a victory over the Lady Indians of Arkansas State Thursday night at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla. Center Maria Cordero dropped in 21 points to lead OSU, which also got 19 from Andrea Riley, 16 from Danielle Green and 12 each from Taylor Hardeman and Kristin Hernandez. Oklahoma State took advantage of 15 first-half turnovers by the Lady Indians to reel off 17 straight points midway through the period, and Arkansas State never recovered, dropping to 4-3 on the season. With the win, OSU kept its record unblemished, improving to 7-0 on the year. The Oklahoma State victory avenged an loss to the Lady Indians last season in Jonesboro. 6 Oklahoma State prevented any thoughts of an ASU comeback with a 20-6 scoring advantage in the first eight minutes of the second half, building a lead with 12 minutes to play. Starr and freshman Shay Scott led the Lady Indians with nine points each, followed by Smith with eight and Brittney Hiles with seven. Anderson and Jazmine Taylor added six points each, with Taylor adding a career-high seven assists. Angie Criner added five points, while Kayla Pospisil and Lyndsay Schlup wrapped up the ASU scoring with two points each. The Lady Indians now travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the ninthranked Oklahoma Sooners (3-2) Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m. OSU NOTABLES: Junior guard Brittney Hiles matched her career high point mark with seven against the Cowgirls...junior forward Ashley Anderson had three blocked shots against OSU to tie her career best...sophomore guard Veronica Smith logged a career-high 28 minutes against Oklahoma State...sophomore guard Jazmine Taylor tallied a career-high seven assists and played a career-high 33 minutes against the Cowgirls...freshman forward Shay Scott grabbed a career-high five rebounds and logged career-best 16 minutes against Oklahoma State...freshman guard Makala McNair pulled down her first rebound as a Lady Indian, and saw a career-high three minutes of action against Oklahoma State...Oklahoma State s 96 points were the most given up by ASU this season...the Cowgirls shot 53.6 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from beyond the 3-point line, the best shooting performances by an ASU opponent this season. ASU PICKED FOURTH IN WEST: The Arkansas State Lady Indians have been picked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference West Division preseason basketball poll, voted on by the league s coaches. The Lady Indians received two first place votes and 58 points overall in the poll, while UALR was the preseason pick to win the division with 76 overall points and six first place votes. Denver was tabbed second, followed by North Texas in third place. Louisiana-Lafayette was picked to finish fifth in the West, followed by Louisiana-Monroe and New Orleans. Western Kentucky received nine first place votes to finish at the top of the polling in the East, followed by Middle Tennessee and Florida International. South Alabama and Troy tied for fourth in the poll, and Florida Atlantic finished sixth. LOCK TO MISS SEASON: Forward Kelsey Lock, the only senior on the Lady Indian roster, will not play this season after suffering what proved to be a career-ending knee injury last year. It was the second major knee injury in as many years for the Republic, Mo. native. Lock Lock averaged 8.7 points for the Lady Indians during the season, starting all 23 games in which she appeared. Last year, Lock averaged 1.7 points in nine appearances, including a season-high nine points in ASU s victory over Oklahoma State. As a coaching staff, we totally support Kelsey s decision, said ASU Head Coach Brian Boyer. As much as we would love to have her competing this year for us, we ve also been beside her the last two years to see what she has gone through. This decision did not come as a surprise to us. Kelsey has done a great job of communicating with us throughout this process, and we feel that this is the best decision for her future. We are going to keep Kelsey involved with the program, added Boyer. She is still going to be a valuable part of this team from a leadership and maturity standpoint, but in the end, this is in the best interest for Kelsey physically. HOT SPRINGS NAMED FUTURE SITE FOR SBC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENTS: The Sun Belt Conference announced at its annual media days that Hot Springs, Ark., renowned for its appeal as a great tourist destination across the state and the country, was selected by the Sun Belt Conference Executive Committee as the host for league s annual men s and women s basketball tournaments from LADY INDIAN BASKETBALL 6

Entering his ninth season as head coach of the Lady Indians, Boyer has climbed to second place on the ASU career win chart with a record of Under Boyer s guidance, the Lady Indians have reached the Women s National Invitation Tournament four times, including three of the past four seasons. He led the Lady Indians to the Sun Belt East Division Championship, the program has produced 16 All-Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm, and Boyer was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the and seasons. His 66 career Sun Belt Conference victories heading into the season rank him sixth all-time in career conference wins. Last season, the Lady Indians finished 21-13, advanced to the second round of the WNIT before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Wisconsin and continued to build on their already-impressive home record with a 14-2 mark at the ASU Convocation Center. The Lady Indians posted home victories over NCAA Tournament participants Oklahoma State and Louisiana- Lafayette, Southeastern Conference member Alabama and WNIT participants South Dakota State and Murray State. In all, 14 of the Lady Indians 34 games during the season were against teams that played in the NCAA or WNIT tournaments. The Lady Indians also reached the 10-victory milestone quicker than any other team in ASU history, picking up their 10th win of the season Jan. 3, 2007, and their 21-win total equaled the highest in Boyer s eight seasons. Under Boyer s guidance, several individual records fell during the season as well. Seniors Adrianne Davie and Rudy Sims rewrote the Lady Indian record books, with Davie shattering the career blocked shots record with 132 and the career rebounding record with 1,147. Sims set a new mark in career assists with 548, and became the first ASU player in over a decade to record a triple-double when she scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists in a overtime victory at Louisiana-Lafayette. Davie was named All-Sun Belt Conference for the fourth straight season, while Sims earned the honor for the third straight year. During the season, the Lady Indians posted a overall record against a schedule that included nine NCAA Tournament teams and three that participated in the WNIT. The Tribe advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and Davie earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the third straight season. Davie also joined the ASU 1,000- point club, along with Sims and senior Amber Abraham. In the season, ASU put together a programbest 10-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak, part of an 11-game win streak that was the fourth longest in Lady Indian history. The Lady Indians finished the season overall and in second place in the Sun Belt East Division at 11-3, giving Boyer his first 20-win season as head coach. The Tribe advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT, defeating SEC powers Mississippi State and Arkansas along the way. The second round victory over Arkansas was played in front of a Convocation Center record crowd of 10, 892. 8 Boyer joined former Lady Indian coach Jerry Ann Winters as the only two ASU women s basketball coaches to win back to- back coach of the year honors. Davie, Sims and Carter all earned All-Sun Belt honors following the season, marking the first time in Lady Indian history that three players earned all-conference honors in a single season. The season culminated with the program s first-ever regular season conference championship and a return to the WNIT. The Lady Indians finished overall and 10-4 in league play, earning a share of the Sun Belt East division title as they posted one of the top turnarounds in Division I, picking up seven more wins than the previous season. ASU s 19 victories that season were the most since the season, sparked in part by the best start in ASU women s basketball history a seven-game win streak to open the season. The strong start carried over into Sun Belt play as the Lady Indians held the top spot in the East division from start to finish. Davie earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a true freshman, and Boyer was rewarded with his first conference Coach of the Year Award. The season capped a pair of rebuilding years and resulted in a strong finish and a trip to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. In his first season as head coach of the Lady Indians, Boyer led ASU to its first-ever Top 25 national ranking, 18 victories and a trip to the WNIT. The Tribe s 18 victories gave Boyer the most wins by a first-year coach at ASU since Sara Wooley won 19 games in her first season in The Lady Indians opened the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games, including road wins over Southern Miss and nationally-ranked Kansas, giving ASU a No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press poll the following week. The Tribe finished the season at overall, ending the year with the program s second straight invitation to the WNIT. Boyer came to ASU in 1995 spending four seasons as an assistant for former head coach Jeff Mittie, who is now the head coach at TCU. A graduate of Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo. with a bachelor's degree in education, Boyer was an assistant coach for the men's program for six seasons, including the last three, which he spent as an assistant with the women's program as well. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was an NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. The team made the Sweet 16 in As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Final Eight of the national tournament. It also went undefeated through its MIAA schedule at In 1994, the team finished third in the nation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing with a 29-3 overall mark. In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach, Boyer and the Lady Indians earned a mark. The team went with a trip to the Women's NIT. In the process, ASU earned wins over nationally- ranked Virginia and Kansas. The Lady Indians won 20 games in back-to-back seasons in the and seasons. The 1997 team opened the season with a victory over nationally-ranked Illinois and had a 12-game winning streak during the season, the second longest in school history. The 1998 squad knocked off nationally-ranked Western Kentucky at the Convocation Center and came within four points of scoring an upset over national power Louisiana Tech at home as well. In his first season at ASU, the Lady Indians won 17 games, despite having just seven scholarship players.
