Live stats, along with free audio and video for the entire tournament can be accessed by logging on to THE TOURNAMENT: Arkansas State is scheduled to take on Washington Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. (PT) in the championship game of the Husky Classic. Arkansas State defeated Weber State to open the Classic, while Washington defeated Idaho in Friday's other first round matchup. Idaho and Weber State will meet in Sunday's noon (PT) consolation game. The Lady Indians enter Sunday s tournament finals at 4-1 overall, winners of four in a row. Washington currently stands at 2-4 on the season. THE SERIES: Sunday s championship game will be the first meeting between Arkansas State and Washington. THE COACHES: Arkansas State Head Coach Brian Boyer is in his ninth season as the Lady Indian head coach. Boyer holds a career record of at ASU, and has directed the Lady Indians to the Women s National Invitation Tournament four times, including three of the past four years. SUCCESS VS. THE SEC: Following its victory at Alabama Nov. 18, ASU is 5-1 vs. teams from the Southeastern Conference under Head Coach Brian Boyer, winning the last five matchups. After losing to Ole Miss during the season, ASU defeated Ole Miss in , then defeated Mississippi State and Arkansas in the Women s National Invitation Tournament in the season. In the season, the Lady Indians opened the season with a win over Alabama. HOME SWEET HOME: The Lady Indians have won over 70 percent (77-31) of their games at the ASU Convocation Center under Head Coach Brian Boyer. Over the last four years, the Tribe has lost just eight times on its home court, posting a winning percentage of.859 during that time (49-8). MORE SUCCESS AT HOME: Following the Tribe s Nov. 13, victory over BYU, ASU is now 6-2 in home openers under Head Coach Brian Boyer, and have won four straight. JAZZIN IT UP: Sophomore point guard Jazmine Taylor tied her career high for points and assists and set new highs for steals and rebounds in ASU s win over Missouri State Nov. 20. Taylor scored eight points and dished out six assists, pulled down seven rebounds Taylor and had six steals in the game. SHOOTING STARR: After hitting just three 3-pointers in ASU s first three games, junior guard Caroline Starr caught fire in the second half against Missouri State Nov. 20. Starr sank two from long range in the first minute of the second half, Starr then added another later in the game to give the Lady Indians their first 20-point lead in the win. EB & FLOW: Sophomore guard Ebonie Jefferson got into the flow of the game in the Nov. 9 season opener at South Dakota State, setting new career highs in points, field goals and field goal attempts. Jefferson scored nine points on 4- Jefferson of-6 shooting and also notched the first steal and assist of her career. Jefferson s strong play continued against Brigham Young as she again scored a career high - finishing with 13 points. Jefferson also grabbed a career-high six rebounds against the Cougars. CRINER DELIVERS: In her first start as a Lady Indian, true freshman Angie Criner led all scorers with 17 points in ASU s victory over Alabama Nov. 18. Criner shot 6-of-11 from the field, 2- of-2 from behind the 3-point line, and 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Criner also Criner added four steals and six rebounds to the box score in 25 minutes of play. Her shot shooting continued against Missouri State Nov. 20 as she hit 6-of-11 shots from the field, including a 2-of-3 effort from 3-point land. Criner led the Lady Indians with 14 points in the game. Hurst scored 16 points in the Lady Indians win over Harding in the Tribe s opening exhibition game. LAST TIME OUT: SEATTLE, Wash. ( ) The Arkansas State Lady Indians (4-1, 0-0) moved into the championship game of the University of Washington Husky Classic with a victory over the Weber State Wildcats (1-3, 0-0) Friday afternoon at Bank of America Arena in Seattle, Wash. Arkansas State hit just 25.8% of its shots in the first half, but bounced back in the second half to hit 14-of- 23 from the field (60.9%), overcoming a deficit at the break and outscoring the Wildcats in the final 20 minutes. Freshman Angie Criner scored 19 points to lead Arkansas State, including 14 in the second half to go along with three second-half steals. Sophomore Veronica Smith was also in double figures for the Lady Indians, finishing the afternoon with 10 points. Arkansas State hit just three of its first 24 shots in the game, falling into a double-digit hole when Weber State went up by 10 at 19-9 on a three-point basket from senior guard Ahkiah Hunter with just over six minutes remaining before halftime. The Lady Indians closed out the first half hitting five of their next seven shots to trim the Wildcat lead to four at Criner scored all five of her first half points during the final six minutes of the period, and ASU got four points from Smith to go along with buckets from junior Brittney Hiles and sophomore Ebonie Jefferson to help close the gap. Early on weren t getting great shots and our early defense wasn t good, but at about the 10-minute mark, we started picking it up, said ASU Head Coach Brian Boyer. That gave us a chance to get within striking distance and make a run in the second half. In the second half we finally cut loose and were much more aggressive. ASU outscored Weber State 14-9 in the first six minutes of the second period, claiming their first lead since an early 3-2 advantage when Smith picked off a Weber State pass at midcourt and drove for the Lady Indian lead. The Lady Indians kept up the pace in through the first 11 minutes of the second half, outscoring Weber State to grab their first double digit lead at Criner scored nine to power the Arkansas State run as the Tribe hit 10 of their first 16 shots after the break. Weber State managed to cut the Arkansas State lead to seven at on a free throw from senior Sara Tuomi with 2:45 to play, but the Lady Indians answered with two buckets in the next 14 seconds to push the lead back to double digits at with 2:11 to play. ASU led by as many as 15 in the final two minutes, moving into Sunday s championship game against the winner of Friday s Washington-Idaho matchup. ASU PICKED FOURTH IN WEST: The Arkansas State Lady Indians have been picked fourth in the Sun Belt Conference West Division preseason basketball poll, voted on by the league s coaches. 6 Lock LOCK TO MISS SEASON: Forward Kelsey Lock, the only senior on the Lady Indian roster, will not play this season after suffering what proved to be a career-ending knee injury last year. It was the second major knee injury in as many years for the Republic, Mo. native. Lock averaged 8.7 points for the Lady Indians during the season, starting all 23 games in which she appeared. Last year, Lock averaged 1.7 points in nine appearances, including a season-high nine points in ASU s victory over Oklahoma State. As a coaching staff, we totally support Kelsey s decision, said ASU Head Coach Brian Boyer. As much as we would love to have her competing this year for us, we ve also been beside her the last two years to see what she has gone through. This decision did not come as a surprise to us. Kelsey has done a great job of communicating with us throughout this process, and we feel that this is the best decision for her future. We are going to keep Kelsey involved with the program, added Boyer. She is still going to be a valuable part of this team from a leadership and maturity standpoint, but in the end, this is in the best interest for Kelsey physically. 7 Head Coach Brian Boyer Through eight seasons as head coach at Arkansas State University, Brian Boyer s name has become synonymous with success and the women s basketball program. Entering his ninth season as head coach of the Lady Indians, Boyer has climbed to second place on the ASU career win chart with a record of Under Boyer s guidance, the Lady Indians have reached the Women s National Invitation Tournament four times, including three of the past four seasons. He led the Lady Indians to the Sun Belt East Division Championship, the program has produced 16 All-Sun Belt Conference players with Boyer at the helm, and Boyer was named Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year following the and seasons. His 66 career Sun Belt Conference victories heading into the season rank him sixth all-time in career conference wins. Last season, the Lady Indians finished 21-13, advanced to the second round of the WNIT before falling to eventual tournament runner-up Wisconsin and continued to build on their already-impressive home record with a 14-2 mark at the ASU Convocation Center. The Lady Indians posted home victories over NCAA Tournament participants Oklahoma State and Louisiana- Lafayette, Southeastern Conference member Alabama and WNIT participants South Dakota State and Murray State. In all, 14 of the Lady Indians 34 games during the season were against teams that played in the NCAA or WNIT tournaments. The Lady Indians also reached the 10-victory milestone quicker than any other team in ASU history, picking up their 10th win of the season Jan. 3, 2007, and their 21-win total equaled the highest in Boyer s eight seasons. Under Boyer s guidance, several individual records fell during the season as well. Seniors Adrianne Davie and Rudy Sims rewrote the Lady Indian record books, with Davie shattering the career blocked shots record with 132 and the career rebounding record with 1,147. Sims set a new mark in career assists with 548, and became the first ASU player in over a decade to record a triple-double when she scored 14 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and handed out 10 assists in a overtime victory at Louisiana-Lafayette. Davie was named All-Sun Belt Conference for the fourth straight season, while Sims earned the honor for the third straight year. During the season, the Lady Indians posted a overall record against a schedule that included nine NCAA Tournament teams and three that participated in the WNIT. The Tribe advanced to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, and Davie earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors for the third straight season. Davie also joined the ASU 1,000- point club, along with Sims and senior Amber Abraham. In the season, ASU put together a programbest 10-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak, part of an 11-game win streak that was the fourth longest in Lady Indian history. The Lady Indians finished the season overall and in second place in the Sun Belt East Division at 11-3, giving Boyer his first 20-win season as head coach. The Tribe advanced to the quarterfinals of the WNIT, defeating SEC powers Mississippi State and Arkansas along the way. The second round victory over Arkansas was played in front of a Convocation Center record crowd of 10, 892. The team s success earned Boyer his second straight Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year Award LADY INDIAN BASKETBALL 7

8 Boyer joined former Lady Indian coach Jerry Ann Winters as the only two ASU women s basketball coaches to win back to- back coach of the year honors. Davie, Sims and Carter all earned All-Sun Belt honors following the season, marking the first time in Lady Indian history that three players earned all-conference honors in a single season. The season culminated with the program s first-ever regular season conference championship and a return to the WNIT. The Lady Indians finished overall and 10-4 in league play, earning a share of the Sun Belt East division title as they posted one of the top turnarounds in Division I, picking up seven more wins than the previous season. ASU s 19 victories that season were the most since the season, sparked in part by the best start in ASU women s basketball history a seven-game win streak to open the season. The strong start carried over into Sun Belt play as the Lady Indians held the top spot in the East division from start to finish. Davie earned honorable mention all-conference honors as a true freshman, and Boyer was rewarded with his first conference Coach of the Year Award. The season capped a pair of rebuilding years and resulted in a strong finish and a trip to the semifinals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. In his first season as head coach of the Lady Indians, Boyer led ASU to its first-ever Top 25 national ranking, 18 victories and a trip to the WNIT. The Tribe s 18 victories gave Boyer the most wins by a first-year coach at ASU since Sara Wooley won 19 games in her first season in The Lady Indians opened the season by winning 10 of their first 11 games, including road wins over Southern Miss and nationally-ranked Kansas, giving ASU a No. 25 ranking in the Associated Press poll the following week. The Tribe finished the season at overall, ending the year with the program s second straight invitation to the WNIT. Boyer came to ASU in 1995 spending four seasons as an assistant for former head coach Jeff Mittie, who is now the head coach at TCU. A graduate of Missouri Western State College in St. Joseph, Mo. with a bachelor's degree in education, Boyer was an assistant coach for the men's program for six seasons, including the last three, which he spent as an assistant with the women's program as well. As an assistant to the men's team, Missouri Western was an NCAA Division II Tournament participant five years (1990, 1991, 1992, 1994 and 1995) and won two conference championships. The team made the Sweet 16 in As a women's assistant, Boyer and Missouri Western made two NCAA Tournament appearances, including a trip to the Final Four in 1995 and the Elite Eight the previous season. The team went 31-3 in 1995 and made it to the Final Eight of the national tournament. It also went undefeated through its MIAA schedule at In 1994, the team finished third in the nation, losing in a national semifinal contest and finishing with a 29-3 overall mark. In his four seasons at Arkansas State as an assistant coach, Boyer and the Lady Indians earned a mark. The team went with a trip to the Women's NIT. In the process, ASU earned wins over nationally- ranked Virginia and Kansas. The Lady Indians won 20 games in back-to-back seasons in the and seasons. The 1997 team opened the season with a victory over nationally-ranked Illinois and had a 12-game winning streak during the season, the second longest in school history. The 1998 squad knocked off nationally-ranked Western Kentucky at the Convocation Center and came within four points of scoring an upset over national power Louisiana Tech at home as well. In his first season at ASU, the Lady Indians won 17 games, despite having just seven scholarship players.
