S BIRTOKOS ESET ( s genitive) - Nem csak a személyes névmást használjuk birtokos jelzői szerepben. Sokszor a birtokost konkrétan megnevezzük. Az angolban ilyenkor a birtokost az utána álló s jelöli. Felépítése pl. Kati könyve = Kati s book a gyerek ruhája = the child s clothes - A magyarban sokszor elhagyjuk a jellemző -nak (a) / -nek (a) ragot (mert a birtokszón a birtokos személyrag úgyis mutatja a birtoklás tényét). Az angolban viszont kötelező kitenni az s-t (mert a birtokszón NINCS birtokos személyrag, így semmi más nem jelzi a birtoklás tényét)! pl. Joenak a barátnője = Joe barátnője Joe s girlfriend (mindkét esetben) birtokos személyrag nincs birtokos személyrag elhagyható nem hagyható el a rag az s - Ha több birtok is van, akkor a birtokszót többes számba tesszük. pl. Joe barátnői Joe s girlfriends - Ha a birtokost kifejező szó -s -re végződik (akkor is, ha többes számú), akkor a birtokos jelző jele önmagában az aposztróf: pl. a fiúk gitárjai = the boys guitars Dickens regénye = Dickens novel - Ha egyazon birtoknak több különböző birtokosa van, az s-t csak a végén tesszük ki. pl. Kate és William fia = Kate and William s son (Ha ilyenkor külön-külön kitennénk az s-t, az azt jelentené, hogy mindkettőjüknek külön kisfia van!) Mikor használjuk? - Főképp, ha a birtokos személy, ember, vagy családtagként kezelt háziállat pl. Joe húga = Joe s sister

- Néha élettelen birtokos esetén is használhatjuk az s t, pl. ha a birtokos ismerős helység vagy nevezetes földrajzi név pl. Magyarország városai = Hungary s cities gyűjtőnév pl. a család élete = the family s life jármű pl. az autó színe = the car s colour Összefoglalva: magyarban angolban -nak a /-nek a pl. Kati s books M.j. Az s birtokos jelző önállóan is használható (azaz úgy, hogy nem követi birtokszó). Ilyenkor magyarra az é raggal fordítjuk le. pl. Ez a kutya Bobé. = This dog is Bob s.
