I. Development of measurement methodology for the effectiveness of awareness raising - 5 types of questionnaires (knowledge about bird conservation and Natura 2000- related topics) - Printed questionnaires sent out to 33 educational institutes (52 kindergartens, 906 lower grades, 546 higher grades input and output questionnaires, 30 teachers questionnaires). - online questionnaires for adults (incl. parents) - October 2014 January 2015: questionnaires received from educational institutes. Some results: - 49% of teacher has taken students to forest schools more than once, 90% of teachers believe that these eco-educational programs are directly integrated into classroom curricula
- 69% of teachers believe that the knowledge acquired about environment /nature conservation greatly benefits the children. -256 of lower grade participants had never heard the word biodiversity before, but is interested in its meaning. Only 30 respondents were uninterested as well as ignorant about biodiversity. - More than 95% of children enjoyed forest shools, thought that had learnt interesting things and understood a lot of the activities and speeches. - 80% of parents think that putting an end to the loss of biodiversity is a moral duty and humans are responsible for preserving nature. 64,5% of parents thinks that biodiversity is of key importance for managing global climate change. - Out of 76 respondents, 65 think that the EU should have a more effective strategy for public awareness raising. 51 respondents think that stricter regulations should be put in force in the economic sector, 43 respondents think that more funding should be provided for nature conservation.
