Miről szól az RSNA 2016 az MR-diagnosztika területén? Beharangozó összefoglalónk. Az RSNA idén is számtalan MR újdonságot és kutatási témát tartogat számunkra, melyeket nem csak tudományos előadások, hanem poszterek formájában is megismerhetünk. Bár talán az egyik legidősebb képalkotó technológiáról beszélünk, ennek ellnére még mindig vannak kiaknázatlan területei. A képalkotó technológiák ötvözésével pedig nem csak az MR kihasználhatósága növekszik, hanem új felfedezések is születnek a neurológiától kezdve egészen a kardiológiáig. Az MR segítségével a kutatók például az Alzheimer-kórban és kognitív károsodásban szenvedő betegek agyának mélyére ásva láthatják azok manifesztációját. Mindezek mellett fontos információt kaphatunk az agyrázkódás, traumás agysérülések és a degeneratív neurológiai elváltozások, például CTE-hez (chronik traumatic encephalopathy) köthető viszonyához, reményt adva a CTE diagnosztizálására még a boncolás előtt. A hagyományos klinikai alkalmazásokon túl a funkcionális MR lehetőséget nyújt a különböző magatartásformák feltérképezésére, mint például a gyógyszer, kábítószer függőségek és segítségével feltérképezhetjük, hogy miért nevetünk, érezzük magunkat éhesnek vagy vágyunk valamire. Az MR befolyása a daganatos betegségek terén is terjed, például különböző biomarkerek kimutatásával karakterizálni tudjuk a daganatokat, a kezelésekre adott válaszoka,t és segít megjósolni a tumoros beteg túlélési esélyeit is, valamint bizonyos MR biomarkerekkel kvantifikálhatjuk és értékelhetjük a pulmonális érrendszeri betegségeket és segíthetjük a cukorbetegség diagnózisának felállítását. Az MR és a PET párosítása továbbra is vonzó a kutatók számára, akik olyan klinikai alkalmazásokra használják az új hibrid technológiát, ami hagyományosan a PET és a PET/CT területéhez tartozik. Számos figyelmeztető és békés hangvételű kutatás született mostanság ezzel kapcsolatban, mely arról szól, hogy milyen mértékben kellene a klinikusoknak aggódniuk a sok évvel a vizsgálat után, az agyban lerakódó gadolínium nyomok miatt.
