ÁLTALÁNOS UTALÁS MEGSZÁMLÁLHATÓ KONKRÉT FŐNÉVRE Kifejezésmódjai: HATÁROZOTT NÉVELŐ (THE) + EGYES SZÁM Ez nem különbözik a magyarban és az angolban. pl. The tiger is dangerous. (A tigris veszélyes) HATÁROZATLAN NÉVELŐ (A/AN) + EGYES SZÁM Ez sem különbözik a magyarban és az angolban. pl. A tiger is dangerous. (Egy tigris veszélyes) TÖBBES SZÁM NÉVELŐ NÉLKÜL A magyarban ez nem lehetséges! Mi ilyenkor a többes szám előtt határozott névelőt használunk. pl. Tigers are dangerous. A tigrisek veszélyesek. * Ha az angolban egy többes számú főnév előtt határozott névelő áll, akkor mindig konkrét, meghatározott dolgokra utal. pl. There are are rabbits, lions and tigers here. The tigers are dangerous. (Vannak itt nyulak, oroszlánok és tigrisek. A tigrisek /a felsorolt állatok közül/ veszélyesek.) Milk is white. A tej fehér. I like music. Szeretem a zenét. Writing letters is boring. A levélírás unalmas. English is spoken all over the world. Az angolt világszerte beszélik. * Ha egy ilyen főnév előtt határozott névelő áll, akkor mindig konkrét, meghatározott dologra utalunk. pl. ÁLTALÁNOS UTALÁS EGY KÖZÖS JELZŐVEL MEGNEVEZETT CSOPORTRA HATÁROZOTT NÉVELŐ (THE) + a főnevesült MELLÉKNÉV A magyarban ilyenkor a főnevesült melléknevet többes számban használjuk. Az angolban a melléknév nem tehető többes számba. pl. The rich are happy. (A gazdagok boldogok.) Can the blind hear well? (A vakok jól hallanak?) The elderly don t understand the young. (Az idősek nem értik a fiatalokat.) ÁLTALÁNOS UTALÁS EGY NÉP TAGJAIRA HATÁROZOTT NÉVELŐ (THE) + a nemzet neve TÖBBES SZÁMBAN Ez nem különbözik a magyarban és az angolban. Csak akkor használható, ha a népnév NEM susogó-sziszegő hangra vagy vegyes hangra végződik! pl. The Hungarians like spicy food. (A magyarok szeretik a fűszeres ételeket.) I don t always understand the Americans. (Nem mindig értem az amerikaiakat.) HATÁROZOTT NÉVELŐ (THE) + a nemzet neve EGYES SZÁMBAN Akkor kell használni, ha a népnév susogó-sziszegő hangra /s, ʃ, z, ʒ / vagy vegyes hangra /tʃ, ʤ/ végződik. Ez a magyarban nem lehetséges! pl. The English used to fight a lot with the French. (Az angolok régen sokat harcoltak a franciákkal.) The Japanese live in Asia. (Az japánok Ázsiában laknak.) Vigyázzunk! Ha az ilyen melléknévvel a nyelvet akarjuk megnevezni, nem szabad a the névelőt használnunk (mert a nyelvre általában utalunk l. fenn)! pl. Is Japanese difficult? = A japán bonyolult? (Ha a the -t is használnánk ebben a mondatban, jelentése ez lenne: Is the Japanese difficult? = A japánok bonyolultak?) ÁLTALÁNOS UTALÁS MINDEN EMBERRE/SZEMÉLYRE ÁLTALÁNOS JELENTÉSŰ SZÓ (névelő nélkül) people = az emberek pl. People usually like music. (Az emberek általában szeretik a zenét.) one = az ember pl. One can t do everything alone. (Az ember nem tud mindent egyedül megcsinálni.) SZEMÉLYES NÉVMÁS Míg a magyarban Tsz./1. személyű igeragozás fejezheti ki az általános alanyt, addig az angolban a YOU személyes névmás. pl. You can see it in the museum. (A múzeumban láthatjuk.)
