Dr. Tulassay Tivadar Rektor Semmelweis Egyetem Tisztelt Rektor úr! Masaki Kitajima japán sebészprofesszor tudományos életútját, hozzájárulását amedicina fejlodéséhez valamint a Semmelweis Egyetem érdekében kifejtett munkásságát a következokben foglaihatom össze. Orvosi diplomáját 1965-ben szerzete Japán egyik világhíru egyetemén, a tokiói Keio University School of Medicine-en. Sebész szakképesítésének elnyerése után, 1975-1977 között a Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts General Hospitalban dolgozott, majd visszatért Japánba. Munkásságát a Keio University Sebészeti Osztályán folytatta - itt végigjárta a fokozatokat. 1991-tol 16 éven át osztályvezeto professzor volt, majd az egyetem direktorává, késobb az orvosi fakultás dékánj ának választották meg. 2007 -tol Emeritus Professzorként folytatja munkáját ugyanezen egyetemen, ugyanakkor az International University of He alth and Welfare (Tókió) je (ez megfelel a magyar rektor címnek). Rendkívül gazdag tudományos munkássága során foglalkozott a gasztrointesztinális traktus stress-hatásokra bekövetkezo károsodásával, a transzplantációval kapcsolatos mikrocirkulációs elváltozásokkal, a metasztázis-képzodés biokémiai faktoraival, a malignus daganatok - ezen belül különösen a gyomor - és a vastagbélrák korai diagnosztikájával és sebészi kezelésével. E területeken úttöroként számos új eljárást dolgozott ki, amelyekkel a minimálisan invazív sebészeti technika és a modern pathologiai kutatások eredményeinek összehangolásával a világon egyedülálló, kimagaslóan jó eredményeket ért el. A gyomorrák és a colorectalis carcinoma terjedésének intraoperatív, radioaktiv módszerrel történo detektálását (Sentinel node mapping) és ennek felhasználását a mutétek kiterjesztésében elsoként alkalmazta a világon. A sebészi eljárásokat az újabb cytostatikus vegyületek klinikai alkalmazásával kiegészítve korábban inkurábilisnak ítélt betegeket tudott sikeresen kezelni. Tanulmányozta a preoperativ radio-kemoterápia (neoadjuváns kezelés) alkalmazását. Foglalkozott a laparoszkópos technika legújabb ágával: a természetes testnyílásokon keresztül végzett sebészi beavatkozások lehetoségévei, a robot-sebészet alkalmazásával, a tumorok gén-terápiájával, az onkológia és az immun-rendszer összefuggéseivel, stb. Társszerzokkel együtt 1763 tudományos közleményt publikált. Tudományos eloadásainak és poszter-prezentációinak száma - társszerzoi munkásságot is magába foglalva - 3412, könyv és könyv-fejezeteinek száma: 302.
2. A Keio University sebészeti osztályán iskolateremto tevékenységet végzett: tanítványai közül Japánban több, mint húszan lettek egyetemi tanárok. Kimagasló tudományos tevékenységének elismerését jelzi, hogy immár a harmadik terminusban folyamatosan tagja a Japán Tudományos Tanácsnak (2005-2014). Ezen túlmenoen további 52 japán tudományos, oktatási, kutatási testü~etben végzett és végez jelenleg is munkát. 30 orvosi-sebészi folyóirat szerkesztobizottságának tagja. Ezek között szerepelnek a legmagasabb tudományos szintet képviselo folyóiratok: New England Journal of Medicine, The British Journal ofsurgery, World Journal of Surgery, Langenbeck's Archives of Surgery, Gastric Cancer, stb. 20 japán és nemzetközi társaságnak, ill. kongresszusnak volt az elnöke, közülük kiemelkedik a Japán Sebész Társaság 100 éves, jubileumi kongresszusának elnöki tiszte, az International Society of Surgery elnöki poziciója - mely a sebészvilág legrangosabb elismerését jelenti. Masaki Kitajima professzor különösen fontos szerepet töltött és tölt be ma is a magyar - japán orvosi, sebészi és a Semmelweis Egyetemmel kiépített kapcsolatok terén. Közremuködésével mutatta be a Surgery Today - a Japán Sebész Társaság folyóirata a magyar sebészetet reprezentáló 16 közleményt - köztük egyetemünk sebészeti klinikáinak munkásságát 1994-ben. Korábban egyetlen más országnak nem adatott meg ez az elismerés. 1996-ban Masaki Kitajima és Sándor Józsefmegalapították a Japán - Magyar Sebész Társaságot, mely ezideig három kiemelkedo színvonalú szimpóziumot szervezett Budapesten, ill. Tokióban, melyeken egyetemünk sebészprofesszorai és fiatal, tehetséges sebészei egyaránt részt vehettek; így közvetlenüllehetoségük nyílt tapasztalatcserére. Masaki Kitajima professzornak múlhatatlan érdemei vannak abban is, hogy közremuködésével indult meg a Semmelweis Egyetemen a japán medikusok oktatása. Tokióban o tart rendszeresen felkészíto eloadást, ismertetést egyetemünkrol azoknak a fiataloknak, akik külföldön szeretnék megszerezni az orvosi diplomát. A kiváló tudóst, sebészt, oktatót, hazánk, a Semmelweis Egyetem, a kölcsönös kapcsolatok tiszteletreméltó képviselojét a Doktori Szabályzatban foglaltak alapján tisztelettel ajánlom egyetemünk Doctor et Professor honoris causa címének elnyerésére.
