Szondázó jellegű kutatás a Bécsi út 260. számú telken Test excavations on lot 260 Bécsi Road (Budapest, 20089/11-12) 111. ker.. Bécsi út 260. Hrsz.: (Budapest 111, 260 Bécsi Road, Lrn: 20089/11-12) A Maxabo Kft. megbízásából végeztünk szondázó jellegű kutatást a Bécsi út nvugati oldalán, a Kubik utcától északra elhelyezkedő telekcsoporton. A mintegy 70 méter hosszan, két szakaszban 8 méter, illetve lépcsőzetes kialakításban 8 méter és 3 méter szélességben megnyitott szondázó árkunk iránva hozzávetőleg kelet-nvugati, a Bécsi útra merőleges. Az árok keleti szakaszán a felszíntől számított 2,50 méter mélységig a megvizsgált rétegek mindegvikc újkorinak bizonyult. A hegy irányában vastagodó modern feltöltés alatt vastag, a 2 urétert is elérő természetes üledék jelentkezett, amit több modern objektum: árok, közművek, meszesgödör, kút vágott. A finoman rétegzett, homokos, kőzetlisztes üledéket több köves, apróköves horizont tagolja, ezek részben a hegv felől, nvugat-északnvugatról érkező időszakos vízfolyások hordalékaként azonosíthatóak, részben hosszabb-rövidebb ideig használt utak kövezéséhez tartoztak. (1. kép) A dokumentált útrétegek egyike sem volt a 19. századnál korábbra keltezhető a leletanyag alapján, bár szórványosan kerültek elő erősen kopott, lekerekedett római kerámia és tégla töredékek is mind az útrétegekből, mind a hordalék- és üledékrétegekből. Kgvik út sem azonosítható a Bécsi út korábbi nyomvonalaként, mivel mindegyik iránva erősen eltér nyugat (azaz a hegv) Test excavations were conducted on the western side of Bécsi Road on a group of lots north of Kubik Street, commissioned bv Maxabo Kft. l'he test trench was 70 m long and 8 m wide in two stretches and respectively 8 m and 3 m wide in the stepped stretch. It ran in an approximately east-west direction perpendicular to Bécsi Road. All the layers were from the modern period clown to a depth of 2.50 m from the surface in the eastern part of the trench. Natural sediments appeared under the modern fill, which became thicker towards the hill. The sediments, which attainted a thickness of 2 in, was intersected by modern features: a trench, public utilities, a lime pit and a well. The finely stratified sediment of sand and rock powder was segmented bv a series of horizons of fine gravel. They can be identified as the deposits of the intermittent water streams flowing down the hill from a west-northwest direction and as the pavement of roads that were used for various lengths of time ( Fig. 1 ). None of the documented road layers could be dated from before the 19"' century from the datable find material, although heavily eroded, rounded Roman shards and brick fragments sporadically occurred both in the road layers and in the sediments. None of the roads
í. kép: Újkori földút részlete Fig, I: Detail of an Early Modem dirt-road felé a mai nyomvonaltól. A terület modern feltöltése az árok nyugati végén elérte a 2 métert is, alatta azonban a természetes üledékréteg csak could be identified with the previous track of Bécsi Road since their direction was significantly different (towards the hill). The same is true of the approximately 6 m wide road with a 60 cm thick pavement, which could be documented along a very narrow stripe and in cross-section. A smaller artificial embankment ran along the western side of this road. Bevond this bank, traces of vineyards functioning until the 1880's could be found. The earth piles gathered around the former vine-stocks survived after the phylloxera devastation and despite the deposition of the soil eroded down from the hill (Fig. 2). After it was discovered that the historical hivers lav much deeper, we proceeded in steps down to a depth of 3.2 m from the surface in the western part of the trench. Even so, the the subsoil was reached only in a narrow test pit at a depth of 3.7 m. The modern fill attained a thickness of 2 m in the western end of the trench, while the natural sediments could be followed onlv until the middle of the western section of the trench. This layer probably originally thinned out in a westerly direction and a larger part of it was destroyed. The humus laver, which was under cultivation in the modern period, appeared to be 50-60 cm thick. It contained sporadic Roman material, which became more abundant in the vicinity of the stone wall unearthed along a length of 17 m at the western end of the trench. The layer partly covered the wall and partly accumulated to its south. A badly worn coin, which probably dates from the Constantine dvnastv, was found above a collapsed stretch of the wall. The east-west oriented wall (Fig. 3) had neither a foundation nor was it mortared. The repeated mending and renovation events can be traced in
A fal egv kiomlott szakasza felett valószínűleg a Constantinus-dinasztia korszakára datálható erősen kopott érem került elő. A kelet-nvugati iramú fal (5. kép) alapozás és kötőanyag nélkül épült, a többszöri javítás, megújítás nemcsak az egyes falszakaszok eltérő falazástechnikája és szélessége (50-05 centiméter), de a felhasznált kőanyagban mutatkozó eltérések alapján is nyomon követhető volt. (A területen Horváth Zoltán végzett geológiai, geo-pedológiai vizsgálatokat.) Az üledék the different walling technologies and widths (50-05 cm) and in the diverse stone material as well. (Zoltán Horváth carried out geological and gco-pedological anakses in this territory). The wall was built on a surface that developed on a sediment layer similar to the modern one. The deposition of the sediment was probably connected with the stream flowing from the direction of the hill, the filled-in basin contained finds no younger than the Roman period. The deposition continued even after the construction of the wall but now it accumulated north of the wall, which functioned as a retaining wall although its original function must have been as a fence. The sediment accumulated behind the wall contained a Severus denar minted in AD 195 among other Roman finds. The sediment layer mixed with rock debris developed on top of a greasy, dark brown humie layer, which contained only sporadic prehistoric shards. The undisturbed subsoil was found beneath this laver. 2. kép: Az újkori szőlőművelés nyomai az üledékkel hordott felszínben Fig. 2: Traces of modern vineyards on the surface covered with alluvium
A fal mögött lerakódott üledékből más római leletek közt Septimius Severus 195-ben vert dénárja is előkerült. A feltételezett ókori bányászat megszűntét, a növény- 3. kép: Római kerítőfal Fig. 3: Roman fencing wall The following historical and topographic conclusions can be drawn from the laver sequence and the features. The cast-west running stone wall without a foundation and mortar can be identified, with a great certainty, as the fencing wall of a nearby, as vet unidentified villa farm. The fencing wall, and probably also the villa, already functioned in the Severus period. With respect to the natural environment, the modern sediment and the similar alluvial sediments deposited in the Roman period indicate the thinning and erosion of vegetation on the hillside above the area. The opening of clav pits in the 19 rtl 20 th centuries must be regarded as the cause this phenomenon. The territory of the refilled clav pits (bordered bv Gölöncsér and Testvérhegyi Roads) is covered with thin vegetation even at present. Similar human impacts are likelv to have taken place behind the alluvial deposition,
Havas Zoltán which started before the construction of the fence and continued afterwards when it already existed. The cessation of the hypothesised clav digging in the Roman period and the recovery of the vegetation is indicated by the formation of the humic layer in the more protected environment. This humic laver was cultivated until the end of the 19 th centurv. Zoltán Havas
