We will take a short break in the summer, and then resume in September. Our group studies the Mass readings for the upcoming Sunday in order to more fully understand and apply these passages to our daily lives. In addition, we study books from both the Old and New Testaments of the Bible using various scholastic commentaries. Through these most informative classes, we learn how the New Testament flows from the Old Testament and Judaism as we connect basic beliefs about God, creation, prayer, and morality. Women and men are invited to join the Tuesday morning Scripture group and attend whenever possible. Participants are welcome to contribute to the discussion or just sit and listen. We hope to see you there! St. Angela Merici co-op

"And you, Bethlehem, land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; since from you shall come a ruler, who is to shepherd my people Israel." Mt 2:6 Excerpts from the Lectionary for Mass 2001, 1998, 1970 CCD Did you know? Epiphany of the Lord The song "We Three Kings" details the gifts of the Magi, but do you know what you're singing? "Born a king on Bethlehem's plan, gold I bring to crown Him again." This one is the most straightforward gold symbolizes the Kingship of Christ. "Myrrh is mine: its bitter perfume breathes a life of gathering gloom." Myrrh is an embalming spice. Already at Christ's birth, we have the symbolic reminder of his death. "Frankincense to offer have I. Incense owns a deity nigh." In many religious traditions, incense symbolizes prayers rising to heaven. In some pagan traditions, it is thought to help "call down" the deity. The gift of frankincense symbolizes Jesus' role as the Great High Priest, sanctifying the world through his sacrifice.

SAINT ANGELA MERICI ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TÜv{w Évxáx Éy axã büäxtçá January 20, 2019 Second Sunday in Ordinary Time Our next Great Serve Gala will take place on Saturday, March 16 th at Mardi Gras World! Mark and Tara Aguilar have once again generously donated the venue for us, and this time we will be in the River City Ballroom, a larger area at Mardi Gras World that will allow for more seating and reserve seating for sponsoring tables. Last year, we were able to raise $41,000 because of your generosity and dedication to the mission of St. Angela! With those funds, we renovated the oak tree space behind the gym, removing the old deck, taking down two dying trees, and replacing them with new live oaks and sod. We also purchased new mass vestments in a four liturgical colors (green, white, purple and red). With each color, we have two chasubles for priests and two dalmatics for deacons. Additionally, we repainted all four stairwells leading up to our school. The rest of the funds will be spent on a handicap push button door opener for the Church entrance near the Conference Room (installed next month), new lighting above the stage in the Kern Center, and the completion of the Conference Room Renovations. Thank you for your strong support! Tickets are on sale online or in the Church office. SAINT ANGELA MERICI ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TÜv{w Évxáx Éy axã büäxtçá February 3, 2019 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Ruth Goliwas designed our Stations of the Cross in the mid1980s. She is pictured holding a prototype for new stations. If you would like to memorialize one of the stations, please contact Fr. Beau. The cost to memorialize is$1600per station and will include a personalized bronze plaque that will hang below each station. Dear Congregation of St. Angela Merici Church, When Fr. Beau asked me to suggest an idea for new stations of the cross for your church, it was a very special moment. It was special because it gave me the opportunity to physically develop a new art form that had been coalescing in my head for a long time. Putting together the actual prototype of the new station of the cross took several weeks of exciting and demanding trial and error. Glass is a medium that is usually associated with light shining THROUGH it; the method here, though, finds a way to elicit a reaction without light coming through the glass, but rather with light bouncing UPON it. Carefully selected pieces of glass juxtaposed next to each other can accomplish this very effectively. The painting on the glass is done in the traditional way, i.e., special pigment hand painted on the glass surface and then fired in a kiln at 1350 degrees, sometimes several times to achieve the desired effect. Apart from the technical aspects of the project, my longstanding relationship with St. Angela and with Rev. Crosby Kern and Rev. Ken Hedrick, and their staffs make this project all the more appealing on a personal level. Fr. Beau s enthusiasm and love for his church is very inspiring, and I am eagerly looking forward to being a working part of your community once again. With Kind Regards, Ms. Ruth Goliwas PARISH OFFICE: 901 BEVERLY GARDEN DRIVE, METAIRIE, LOUISIANA 70002 PARISH OFFICE: (504) 835-0324 SCHOOL: (504) 835-8491 WWW.STANGELA.ORG

His or her weight is approaching 2 pounds. At this point, the baby's eyes are open and can respond to light. Also, eyelashes, eyebrows, and fingernails have grown enough to be easily seen. Babies born prematurely at this time have a very good chance of surviving. The medical advances in caring for extremely small newborn infants are extraordinary indeed. In just three short months your spiritually adopted baby will be born. Please continue to remember him or her in your prayers. It is truly a labor of love, much hard work and sacrifice is involved. But the tasks are performed with such joy. Come join us in this joyful exchange of camaraderie while working to honor St. Joseph. This year the Cookie Committee is making 15,000 20,000 cookies for our altar. The cookie making has already begun, along with rosary making, candleholder making, etc. Please see our Schedule of Events for upcoming Altar activities in February and March copies of the Schedule can be found in the Church hallways. You do not need to be there for all hours in order to participate.if your schedule only allows you a little time, your help is still greatly appreciated. Our next activities, scheduled for February 9, 2019, from 1 4 p.m. and February 16, 2019, from 1 4 p.m. include various Altar projects, including rosary making and cookie making, respectively. Also, be thinking about donations your family would like to bring to the altar. Some suggestions are holy cards, fruit, vegetables, plants, flowers, palms, seafood, casseroles, cakes, cookies, pastries, just to name a few. Monetary donations are always welcome as well. A schedule of when donations can be delivered will be posted in an upcoming bulletin. Please contact Janet Cruppi at 504 338 2957, or Renee Lauland at 5043712101, if you would like to loan or donate to our family altar. High school students looking for service hours are welcome to help with rosary making, cookie making and other altar activities. Did you know Palms are always present on a St. Joseph altar. Palms on the altar represent those that were strewn before Jesus as he entered Jerusalem. They represent praise and thanksgiving. Archdiocesan news St. Angela Merici Fourth annual family St. joseph altar The centuries old custom and tradition of erecting St. Joseph altars continues today, especially in our area because we have such a large population of Sicilian descendants. SAINT ANGELA MERICI ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TÜv{w Évxáx Éy axã büäxtçá February 17, 2019 Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parishioners, I wanted to give everyone an update on the Stations of the Cross. Two weeks ago, our bulletin cover featured local artist RuthGoliwas, the designer of our current Stations of the Cross that were completed in the early 1980s.I asked Ruth last fall about updating our Stations and she came up with a beautiful prototype, using a type of stained glass with a handmade metal framework.the projectwas set to cost a total of $22,400, covering artist s cost and installation ($21,000), and 14 small bronze plaques ($1,400).In my article, I invited parishioners who wanted to memorialize an individual station to sponsor it for $1,600, offering a small cast bronze memorial plaque below each station. A Message from Father Beau. Our response was incredible! I now would like to allow more people toparticipatein memorializing our new stations, reducing the memorial cost to $525 per station, and allowing a total of 40 sponsors toparticipate.this would cover the artist s cost of $21,000. The 40 names would be placed on a large single cast bronze plaque that would be set to the right of Station One.A generous parishioner is covering the cost of this plaque. At the time of this printing, 33 people have signed up to sponsor a station. Seven (7) sponsorships remain. If you would like to take part in this, please contact the parish office. As always, know that Fr. Patrick and I pray for you daily! PARISH OFFICE: 901 BEVERLY GARDEN DRIVE, METAIRIE, LOUISIANA 70002 PARISH OFFICE: (504) 835-0324 SCHOOL: (504) 835-8491 WWW.STANGELA.ORG
