From Fr. Dan. Today, as we celebrate TRINITY SUNDAY, we call to mind what the Catechism refers to as the central mystery of our faith : that God is 3 persons in 1 God. Although it is a difficult concept to get our minds around, what it reveals about God is very powerful it shows us that in the very essence of God is a loving communion of persons! We are enfolded into that loving communion through the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism makes us adopted children of God and enables us to call God our Father; Eucharist unites us with Jesus Christ, the 2nd person of the Trinity, by sharing His Body and Blood; and Confirmation gives us the fullness of the Holy Spirit. It may be a good point of our prayer and reflection today, to examine if that love that is God, and that we share sacramentally, spills over into our daily lives and relationships. Do other people experience a loving communion (i.e. the presence of God) when they interact with us? * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Tuesday, May 31, is the last day of May a month in our Church year traditionally dedicated to our Blessed Mother, Mary, and is also a Marian Feast day, the Feast of the Visitation of Mary. On that occasion (see Luke 1: 39-56), as Mary arrived at the house of her relative, both Elizabeth and her unborn son, John the Baptist, rejoiced at the presence of Jesus, whom Mary had already conceived. Also, in scripture and in her various appearances throughout history, Mary has always been about directing us to Jesus. Therefore to celebrate her, and honor her Son, we will have a day of Eucharistic Adoration on May 31, beginning at 9:30 AM (i.e. after the morning Mass). Adoration will continue throughout the day. At 6:30 PM there will be a praying of the Rosary, which will be followed by the Rite of Benediction. There will be a sign-up sheet in the church narthex (entry-way) as all are encouraged to commit to a period of Adoration. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Monday, May 28, is Memorial Day, and we will have a parish Mass at 9:00 AM in the main church. This will be a Mass for the Preservation of Peace and Justice, at which we will pray for all those killed and injured in the defense of our country and its values, as well as all veterans and the active members of our Armed Forces and their loved ones. So many have made tremendous sacrifices and given their lives to protect and defend the blessings America has to offer. We owe them a great debt of gratitude. Let us pray that they experience the reward of their efforts, in this life if possible, but certainly in the life to come! Following are a few prayers you may wish to make use of: FOR DECEASED VETERANS: O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on our departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in you with your saints forever. Amen. FOR THOSE CURRENTLY SERVING IN OUR MILITARY: Lord God, Almighty Father, creator of mankind and author of peace, as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess, we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces. Give them courage, hope and strength. May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing. Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light. To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen. God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace.

JUST A THOUGHT THOSE without faith look at fellow humans and see only a rational animal. THOSE with faith see a child of God. THOSE without faith pick up a bible and find only words. THOSE with faith discover the Word of God. THOSE without faith look at the Eucharist and see only bread and wine. THOSE with faith experience the reality of the Lord s body given up for us and His blood poured out for us. THOSE without faith look at suffering and see only tragedy. THOSE with faith believe that suffering is a share in the cross of Christ.
GO, THEREFORE, AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL NATIONS The history of missionary activity in the Church is vibrant and fascinating. From the Apostles who first heeded the call of Jesus to Go and make disciples of all nations to famous missionaries like Saint Francis Xavier and the Jesuits or Saint Teresa of Calcutta and the Missionaries of Charity, there is a long tradition of those who have traveled far from home to bring the good news of Jesus to every corner of the world, even at the cost of their own lives. Today, the missionary work of the Church doesn t have to take us to the ends of the world, but just to the end of our street. The message of hope and new life of the Gospel is ours to share with family, neighbors, co-workers and strangers as we seek to continue the work of Jesus in the world today. At its heart, On Mission for The Church Alive! is an opportunity for us to be renewed in faith and sent forth to make new disciples in our parishes, our neighborhoods and throughout the whole world. Ask God for an abundance of his gifts to make this a reality in your life each day. Visit ONMISSIONCHURCHALIVE.ORG to learn more and to stay informed. FESTIVAL OF PRAISE FOR VOCATIONS Come to praise God for the four men to be ordained to the diaconate and pray for an increase in priestly vocations at the Festival of Praise for Vocations held on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 PM at St. Paul Seminary. Bishop Zubik will preside over a holy hour and time of adoration. John Trabbic and his band will lead praise. There will also be opportunity for confession and a light reception. For more information, contact Theresa Sullivan: tsullivan@diopitt.org or 412-456-3123. CORPUS CHRISTI MASS AND PROCESSION The Hispanic Ministry of the Diocese of Pittsburgh will celebrate the Corpus Christi Solemnity on Sunday, June 3, in Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 1915 Broadway Ave. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Bishop William Waltersheid will be the principal celebrant. Mass will be celebrated at 12:30 PM, followed by Eucharistic Adoration and a Eucharistic Procession through the streets, with a color guard of flags of many nations. A reception will follow after the Procession in the parish hall. All are invited to attend. For more information call (412) 337-7268. SURGE OF THE HEART PARISH MISSION Mark your calendar for a three day Catholic mission you will never forget! Catholic speaker, best-selling author and radio host, Jon Leonetti, will help us close the gap between the Gospel and our everyday lives. Jon will be at Corpus Christi Parish Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings June 4, 5 & 6 at 7:00 PM for Surge of the Heart Parish Mission. The first evening s talk is Who is God and Why Does That Matter? We cannot love someone we don t know. Therefore, in order to love God we have to first know God. So how do we come to know God? In understanding the ways he s revealed himself to us, we better understand who we are and what our mission in life is all about. After all, selfishness, greed, resentment and ego make us miserable. It s the cross of Jesus Christ and the power of the Gospel that can set us free. There will be devotions before the evening program and hospitality afterwards. All are welcome to Corpus Christi Church, 2515 Versailles Avenue, McKeesport for the mission week. Call 412-672-0765 x2 for more information.
