2 TUDOMÁNYOS ELNÖKI PROGRAM KÖSZÖNTÔ - ELÕADÁSOK Tisztelt Tagtársak, Kedves Kollégák! A Magyar Idegtudományi Társaság XII. Konferenciájának szervezõbizottsága nevében szeretettel köszöntök minden résztvevõt. A MITT vezetõségének felkérésére az MTA Kísérleti Orvostudományi Kutatóintézete nevében örömmel vállaltam e rangos esemény megszervezésének és lebonyolításának megtisztelõ feladatát. Köszönöm a szervezõk és a programbizottság minden tagjának a körültekintõ munkát, úgy érzem sikerült elérni, hogy a résztvevõk teljes képet kaphassanak a hazai idegtudományi kutatások jelenleg folyó témáiról az alapkutatástól az innovációs és klinikai alkalmazások széles köréig. A MITT konferenciáinak történetében a fizetõ regisztrált résztvevõk száma elõször haladta meg a 400-at, és a poszterek száma is az eddigi legmagasabb. Társaságunk tehát bizonyította, hogy az idegtudományi kutatások ma is igen magas színvonalon folynak Magyarországon, és rendelkezünk a nemzetközi porondon is kompetitív kutatókból a szükséges kritikus tömeggel. Így joggal számíthatunk arra, hogy a kormányzat az agykutatást és a központi idegrendszeri célpontú gyógyszerkutatást prioritásként kezelje, hiszen adottak a személyi feltételek ahhoz, hogy hazai gazdaság számára kitörési pontot jelenthessen. Ugyanakkor a kiemelt támogatást társadalom-egészségügyi indokok is alátámasztják, hiszen a társadalmak elöregedése és az információrobbanás globalizált világunkban jelentõsen növelik az ideg- és elmebetegségek gyakoriságát, ami óriási gazdasági és szociális tehertétel a társadalomra. A közvéleményt és a szakpolitikusokat minél hatékonyabban szeretnénk ezekrõl a tényekrõl tájékoztatni, támogatásukat megnyerni. Ezért szerveztünk egy "Brain Awareness" sajtótájékoztatót a konferencia 2. napján ebédidõben, amire - a tudományos újságírók és egészségpolitikusok mellett - a konferencia résztvevõi közül is mindenkit szívesen látunk. Az elõadók között lesz az idegtudomány vezetõ európai lobbi-szervezetének, a European Brain Council-nak az alapító elnöke, Jes Olesen professzor. E szervezetnek nagy szerepe volt abban, hogy az Európai Unió Tanácsa, az Európa Parlament támogatásával az idegtudományt a kutatás-fejlesztés és az innováció kiemelt prioritásának jelölte meg a 7. Keretprogramban. A konferencia igazán méltó helyszínen, az MTA Székházában kerülhet megrendezésre, a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia támogatásával, amiért ezúton is köszönetet mondunk. A hagyományoknak megfelelõen a tagság poszter formában mutatja be eredményeit. A hazai idegtudomány elmúlt 1-2 éves fejlõdésérõl, a magas színvonalon mûvelt új és hagyományos kutatási irányokról tájékozódhatunk a 6 kategóriába sorolt posztereken, két szekcióban elosztva. Mind a 6 kategóriában egy-egy Ft-os poszter-díj kerül kiosztásra, és közülük az egyik fogja megkapni a fõdíjat. 2 A Magyar Idegtudományi Társaság XII. Konferenciája - Budapest, 2009.

3 TUDOMÁNYOS ELNÖKI PROGRAM KÖSZÖNTÔ - ELÕADÁSOK Plenáris elõadóknak és szimpózium résztvevõknek a nemzetközi idegtudomány kiemelkedõ személyiségeit sikerült megnyernünk, és úgy érzem valóban a legnagyobb figyelemnek örvendõ kutatási területek közül sikerült a plenáris és a szimpóziumi elõadások témáit kiválasztani. Úgy gondolom, hogy az elõadóknak ez az impozáns listája a magyar idegtudomány és a szimpózium-elnökök nemzetközi elismertségét egyaránt jól mutatja. Törekedtünk arra, hogy a klinikus kutató kollégák és a gyógyszeripar képviselõi számára is izgalmas legyen a program, az egyik klinikai tárgyú szimpózium szervezését és anyagi támogatását a MITT egyik testvér-társasága, a Magyar Ideg- és Elmeorvosok Társasága vállalta. Reméljük, hogy ez a közös program hagyományteremtõ lesz, és jól szolgálja majd az alapkutatás és a klinikai kutatások konvergenciáját. Különös jelentõségû a XII. MITT Konferencia egyben azért is, mert alkalmat ad társaságunk tisztújító Közgyûlésének megrendezésére. A tagság minél teljesebb részvéte a közgyûlésen emiatt is fontos. A szokásos baráti összejövetelt is megrendezzük pénteken este az Aranytíz-ben, amire minden résztvevõt szeretettel várunk. Reméljük, hogy ez a fogadás is hozzájárul majd ahhoz, hogy a MITT'2009 Konferencia ne csak kimagasló tudományos színvonala, hanem kellemes hangulata miatt is emlékezetes legyen minden résztvevõ számára. Minden Tagtársunkat, idegtudományi alap-, klinikai- és fejlesztõ-kutatást mûvelõ Kollégát mégegyszer szeretettel köszöntök a konferencián. Kívánom, hogy valamennyiünk technikai ismeretei, koncepcionális elképzelései sokat fejlõdjenek a két és fél nap elõadásaiból, posztereibõl, a tudományos és baráti beszélgetésekbõl, sikerüljön minél több új együttmûködést, kutatási témát szervezni, valamint a hazai idegtudományok hírnevét, színvonalát megõrizni és növelni. 4 TUDOMÁNYOS PRESIDENTIAL PROGRAM GREETING - ELÕADÁSOK Dear Colleagues, Fellow Members and Guests, It is a great pleasure to welcome you in the name of the Organizing Committee of the 12 th Meeting of the Hungarian Neuroscience Society. It was a great honour for the Institute of Experimental Medicine of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and for myself as director, to accept the request of the Executive Committee of the Hungarian Neuroscience Society to organize this conference. I am most grateful for all members of the Organizing and Program Committees for the excellent job, I am convinced we managed to achieve that participants receive a complete picture of what is going on in neuroscience in Hungary today from basic research to industrial and clinical applications. For the first time in the history of Hungarian Neuroscience Society meetings, the number of registered participants exceeded 400, and the number of posters will also be the largest so far. Thereby our Society clearly demonstrated its strength, that neuroscience research is carried out at the highest international level in Hungary, and we do have the critical mass of internationally competitive scientists required to retain this status. We anticipate that, encouraged by these facts, the Hungarian Government will consider brain research and CNS pharmaceutical research as a priority, since the infrastructural conditions, traditions, international prestige and personnel are all available to build economical strategies on this area. In the same time, an exceptional support for brain research is warranted also by health policy issues, since the aging of the population and the flood of information in our globalized society massively increases the incidence of neurological and psychiatric disorders, which means an enormous economical as well as societal burden. We would like inform the public as well as the policymakers about these issues as efficiently as possible, therefore we organized a "Brain Awareness" press conference during the lunch break on the 2 nd day, to which - besides representatives of the media and the government - all members of the conference are welcome. We are honoured to have Professor Jes Olesen among the speakers, the founding president of the European Brain Council, which is the leading lobby organization for neuroscience in Europe. This organization played a decisive role in getting brain research accepted as a priority in the 7 th Framework Program of the EU. We had the possibility to organize the conference in a most prestigious location, the Headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, for which we are grateful to the Academy leadership. According to our traditions, attendees of the conference have the opportunity to present their research in the form of posters, which have been grouped into 6 categories. We will be able to get informed about the last 1-2 years of development of Hungarian neuroscience, about new directions of research and technologies at the poster sessions, where participation is strongly encouraged. 5 TUDOMÁNYOS PRESIDENTIAL PROGRAM GREETING - ELÕADÁSOK We are fortunate to have an exceptional list of plenary and symposium speakers, all being internationally highly respected figureheads in neuroscience, and leaders in their respected fields. Their acceptance of our invitation is partly a result of the international recognition and reputation of Hungarian neuroscience as well as that of the symposium chairs. I believe we managed to select topics that are indeed considered hot topics worldwide. We paid particular attention to generate a program that is interesting also for our colleagues working in pharmaceutical or clinical research. One of the clinical symposia has been organized and financed by the sister-organization of HNS, the Hungarian Society of Neurologists and Psychiatrists. We hope this event will start a tradition, and facilitate the convergence of basic and clinical research efforts. Particular significance is given to the 12 th Meeting of HNS that it will host the General Assembly that elects new officers of the Society. Therefore we strongly encourage participation of as many members as possible. The usual get-together party will be organized Friday evening in "Aranytíz" Event Hall, just a corner from the conference venue, to which all participants are kindly invited. We hope this reception ensures that the HNS'2009 conference will be memorable for all attendees not only because of its high scientific value, but also for its friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Let me welcome again all participants, basic, clinical and pharmaceutical researcher colleagues to the conference. I wish all of us a fruitful and joyful meeting with lots of new information to develop our knowledge on both conceptual and technological grounds, and with lots of discussions that may form the basis of joint projects and grant applications. 12 ÁLTALÁNOS INFORMÁCIÓK / GENERAL INFORMATION Társasági programok Ebéd A konferencia helyszínén szendvics-ebédet ajánlottunk január 22-én és január 23-án elõzetes jelentkezés alapján. Az ebédcsomagot (ára: Ft/alkalom) a regisztráció alkalmával kapott ebéd-jegy ellenében lehet átvenni. Fogadás Január 23-án este 19:00 órától állófogadásra hívjuk a konferencia résztvevõit az Aranytíz Rendezvényközpontba (1051 Budapest, Arany János u. 10. / Arany J. u. - Tüköry u. sarok) A fogadás alkalmával kerül sor a poszter-díjak átadására is. Képtárlátogatás A Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Mûvészeti Gyûjteménye a Roosevelt téri székházépület harmadik emeletén található. Ma itt az Akadémiával, annak történetével kapcsolatos alkotásokat láthatnak a látogatók. A konferencia résztvevõi január 23-án pénteken óra között - térítési díj nélkül - tekinthetik meg a képtárat. Lemondási-módosítási feltételek Lemondást kötbérmentesen kizárólag írásban ( üzenet vagy fax) fogadunk el, legkésõbb december 15-ig. Ezt követõen a részvételi díjat már nem áll módunkban visszatéríteni és felszámítjuk az esetleges szállás-kötbéreket is. Felelõsség- és egyéb biztosítás A konferencia közzétett részvételi és egyéb díjai nem tartalmaznak baleset-, betegség-, poggyász- és felelõsségbiztosítási díjat, így a felsorolt események bekövetkezése esetén a szervezõknek nem áll módjukban semmilyen felelõsséget vagy kártérítést vállalni. Pénzügyek - számlázás A megrendelt szolgáltatások költségeit a kiállításra kerülõ számlán az érvényes jogszabályok szerint tüntetjük fel. Számla - módosítás, új számla kiállítása a rendezvény végéig, legkésõbb január 24-ig lehetséges, az eredeti számla-példány visszajuttatása mellett. 13 ÁLTALÁNOS INFORMÁCIÓK / GENERAL INFORMATION Social programs Lunch Sandwich lunch will be provided to the participants in the Meeting venue on the 22 January and 23 January upon previous order. The lunch packages (1800 HUF / 7 EUR / lunch) can be obtained with lunch tickets received at the registration. Reception The usual get-together party will be organized on the 23 January from 19:00 in the "Aranytíz Event Hall", just a corner from the conference venue (H-1051 Budapest, Arany J. u. 10.), to which all participants are kindly invited. Walk in the Gallery Portraits, landscapes, historical genre paintings, archeological drawings, Elischer's Goethe collection, and the very beautiful objects d'art of the Széchenyi Museum are among the most important treasures of the Academy's fine arts collection. The participants of the Congress can visit the Gallery - free of charge - on 23 January (Friday) between 10:00-16:00 hours. Cancellation Policy Cancellations for the Meeting (registration, accommodation, lunches) must be notified in writing ( or fax) before 15 December, No refunds are available after 15 December, Insurance The fees do not include any kind of insurance. The Organizing and Program Committee and the Organizing Office can not accept liability for personal accidents, losses or damage. Health, baggage or accident insurance is recommended and must be taken out in your own country. Finances - billing The prices of the ordered services are indicated on the invoice according to the legislation in force. This noxious heat gated ion channel was subsequently renamed to transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) and further TRP channels were described which are gated by thermal stimuli in various temperature ranges (TRPV1, TRPV2, TRPV3, TRPV4, TRPM8, TRPA1). TRPV1 and TRPA1 as noxious heat and noxious cold gated TRP channels, respectively are membrane proteins integratively gated also by endogenous or exogenous nociceptive chemical agents and has become promising target molecules for developing analgesics for inactivation the functions of nociceptors. Within the frame of this symposium János Szolcsányi outlines briefly those aspects of capsaicin research which led to the discovery of the first thermotrp channel. Piero Geppetti presents evidence for the participation of endogenous chemical ligands gating directly or indirectly particularly the TRPV1 and TRPA1 channels. It is an idiopathic headache disorder that is charactherized by moderate to severe, often unlilateral and pulsating headache attacks aggravated by physical activity and accompanied by vegetative symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia (1).One of the most important aspects of the pathophysiology of migraine is the inheritied nature of the disorder.furthermore, about two thirds of patients report pain from nonnoxious stimuli, allodynia (2). The recent developments of non-peptide highly specific CGRP antagonists, and the announcemenet of proof of concept for a CGRP antagonist in acute migraine(3) firmly establish this as a novel and important new emerging principle for acute migraine. Furthermore, authors have shown changes in neurophysiological measures in brain activation, but there is much discussion as to how to interpret such changes (4). Recently, it was found that the tryptophan metabolite kynurenine mitigates the stimulation -induced increase of c-fos immunoreactivity of the rat trigeminal nucleus in an experimental migraine model (5). It was established decades ago that most principal cells in the hippocampus fire in relation to space. This discovery has triggered a new field of electrophysiological investigation into hippocampal neuronal activity in behaving animals. Recently, place-selective firing has been discovered in the entorhinal cortex as well. Here, many cells, known as "grid cells", exhibit multiple periodically spaced firing fields, spanning entire environments in grid-like patterns. In this session, John O'Keefe the discoverer of place cells will describe how hippocampal cell coding emerges during development and how it is disrupted in a mouse model of Alzheimer's (Cacucci et al., PNAS 2008). Following a similar theme, Carol Barnes, a world-renowned researcher of memory impairment in aged animals, will describe how hippocampal neuronal patterns are altered in ageing (Gerrad et al., 2008, J Neurosci). Then, May-Britt and Edvard Moser, discoverers of grid cells, will talk in more detail about the firing properties of these cells (Fyhn et al., 2007, Nature; Sargolini et al., 2006, Science). First, Tibor Harkány will talk about exciting new findings on developmental aspects of endocannabinoid signaling including its role in the control of axon guidance (Berghuis et al. 2007, Science). Then Beat Lutz is invited to present elegant genetic models, which uncovered cell type-specific role of endocannabinoid signaling in certain neurological diseases including epilepsy (Marsicano et al, 2003, Science; Monory et al., 2006, Neuron; Monory et al., 2007, PLoS Biology). Cannabis has been used for pain relief since ancient times; however the site and mechanisms of its analgesic action have only recently been studied systematically. Hanns Ulrich Zeilhofer will provide intriguing new evidence about the loss of synaptic inhibition in the spinal cord (Knabl et al., 2008, Nature) and its relation to endocannabinoid signaling and demonstrates how it is involved in central pain sensitization.
