What are the objectives of student placements? To help students to adapt to the requirements of the EU-wide labour market; To enable students to develop specific skills including language skills and to improve understanding of the economic and social culture of the country concerned in the context of acquiring work experience; To promote cooperation between higher education institutions and enterprises; To contribute to the development of a pool of well-qualified, open-minded and internationally experienced young people as future professionals. Who can benefit?

For how long can students go abroad? Students can do a placement between 3 and 12 months or at least two months for students in short-cycle higher vocational education. What are the preconditions? ERASMUS students are selected by their home higher education institution in a fair and transparent way. Where do placements take place? Host organisations for student placements may be enterprises, training centres, research centres and other organisations. Excluded are European Union institutions and other EU bodies including specialised agencies, organisations managing EU programmes (in order to avoid possible conflict of interests and / or double funding) and national diplomatic representations (embassy and consulate) of the home country of the student. What arrangements are made for the students? Prior to their departure, students are provided with: A placement agreement (grant agreement) covering the mobility period and signed between the student and his or her home higher education institution. A "Training Agreement" regarding its specific programme for the placement period; this agreement must be endorsed by the home higher education institution and the host organisation; A "Quality Commitment" setting out the rights and obligations of all the parties specifically for placements abroad. The ERASMUS Student Charter setting out the student's rights and obligations with respect to his/her period abroad. At the end of the period abroad: Full recognition must be given by the home higher education institution for the period spent abroad, preferably using ECTS credits. Recognition shall be based on the training agreement approved by all parties before the period of mobility starts. In the particular case of a period of placement that is not part of the curriculum of the student, the sending institution shall provide recognition at least by recording this period in the Diploma Supplement or, if not possible, in the student's transcript of records. In addition, the use of Europass mobility documents is encouraged. Will financial support be provided? Students may be awarded an ERASMUS grant to help cover the travel and subsistence costs (including insurance and visa costs) incurred in connection with their placement period abroad. The payment of any national grant or loan to outgoing students should be maintained during the ERASMUS placement period abroad. Students may only receive two ERASMUS grants: one grant for a study period and one

An ERASMUS student may follow, if offered, an ERASMUS Intensive Language Course in the host language before the placement period, for which a grant may also be awarded. Who can apply? The home institution of the students or a consortium of home institutions applies for ERASMUS mobility grants to its national agency while the students apply to their home institution. For higher education institutions or consortia: The sending institution must be a holder of an Extended ERASMUS University Charter. The receiving enterprise or organisation does not need such a Charter. At least the sending or the receiving country must be an EU Member State. In case the placement is organised by a consortium, the placement consortium must hold an ERASMUS consortium placement certificate. For students: The student must either be a national of a country participating in the Lifelong Learning Programme or a national of other countries enrolled in regular courses in institutions of higher education in a participating country, under the conditions fixed by each of the participating countries, taking into account the nature of the programme. The student must be registered in a higher education institution which holds an Extended ERASMUS University Charter and be enrolled in higher education studies leading to a recognised degree or other recognised tertiary level qualification up to and including the level of doctorate. How to apply? The interested student has to turn to the international office and / or ERASMUS office of his or her higher education institution. At the end of the study period abroad the student must return this report in electronic format to his home institution. 5) Erasmus Student Charter, which includes the rights and obligations of an Erasmus Student. Before the student departs, the student and the home institution will agree on a plan for the studies to be undertaken at the host institution and on the credit that the home institution will award for the study abroad as though it were part of the study programme at home (learning agreement). All such agreements will be confirmed in writing by the student, the home institution and the host institution. Any revision to the Learning Agreement found to be necessary when the student first arrives at the host institution shall be finalised and formalised within one month of the student s arrival. Any subsequent changes to the Learning Agreement shall be formally agreed by the three parties. At the end of the study period abroad, the host institution will give the student and his or her home institution a certificate confirming the fact that the study plan was indeed carried out, and presenting a list of the results (transcript of records). Any proposed change in this agreement regarding the period of study will be submitted to the home institution for its approval. If the home institution agrees to the change, it will confirm this in writing to the student. This document will be appended to the present agreement. Within 30 days after finishing the study abroad, which needs to be at least three months, the student must submit the Statement of the Host Institution, the Transcript of Records and

10 10 / :39 the Student Report to the home institution, thus proving that the studies have taken place as planned. If the student fails to deliver either of these documents, the home institution can claim back a part of or the entire Erasmus grant from the student. If possible before departure of the student, but within 30 days of the date of entry into force of this agreement, the home institution will pay an advance of 70 % of the total grant, assuming the grant is received. If prior to the period of study abroad the student applies for an EILC course and is selected, he/she is obliged to join this course. If unforeseen emergencies force the student to resign, he/she should inform the institutions concerned as soon as possible. In case the student fails to go abroad for any reason, he/ she is obliged to pay back the total Erasmus grant. If the study period abroad was shorter than planned, the student must pay back part of the money received. In case the student fails to live up to this agreement or the present contract is dissolved, the student must pay back either all or part of the grant. The student declares that he/she meets the following requirements: Is registered in a programme, study or is pursuing an additional/postgraduate study at an university or university of professional education, finishing with a recognised diploma from a higher education institution. Is a full-time student at the host institution. Has completed the first year of study with success and has started the second year. Has never before studied as an Erasmus student abroad (with an Erasmusgrant or as a zero-grant student) as an Erasmus study period is allowed only once. Will not apply for other scholarships or grants awarded through other EU programmes for the study period to which this contract applies. Failure to comply with the conditions and agreements laid down in this student contract can be a reason for the home institution to dissolve the contract and claim back the total grant. A community is said to be culturally diverse if its residents include members of different groups. The community can be a country, region or city. Cultural diversity has become a hot-button issue when applied to the workplace. Why does cultural diversity matter? People from different races, etc. have different life experiences. This flavors their interpretation of events. These differences can bring strength to the group if it is valued and integrated into the group dynamics. However, it can take time, intent and the willingness to be open-minded and non-judgmental about the value the differences bring. It definitely takes effort to make cultural diversity a strength. Cultural diversity can also weaken a group. Differences in interpretation of events can lead to mis-communication, awkwardness and hostilities if not addressed. Prejudices about people of different backgrounds can also lead people to jump to conclusions and misinterpret actions and behaviors. It is illegal for employers to discriminate against employees based on their cultural diversity. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)promotes equal opportunity and handles complaints about workplace discrimination. Federal laws prohibit discrimination in the workplace for: age, disability, national origin, race, religion, and gender. 15 15 / :39 Olvasnivaló Szakmai gyakorlat hallgatóknak Mi a szakmai gyakorlat célja? A külföldi cégnél, fogadó szervezetnél eltöltött időszak után a hallgató olyan tapasztalatokkal, készségekkel gazdagodva térjen haza, mely jelentős előnyt biztosít számára a magyar munkaerőpiacon való elhelyezkedéshez. Mennyi időre szól a szakmai gyakorlat? A szakmai gyakorlat minimum 4, maximum 21 hétre szól utazás napjai nélkül; Az ösztöndíj összegébe európai országok esetén 1-1 nap lesz utazásra kalkulálva, míg Európán kívüli országba 2-2 nap. Hova és milyen tevékenységre lehet pályázni? Bármely olyan külföldi intézménybe (akkreditált felsőoktatási intézmény, kutatóintézet, múzeum, levéltár stb.), melyet a hallgató küldő intézménye jóváhagyott. Bármely akkreditált magyarországi felsőoktatási intézmény hallgatója, aki a pályázott tevékenység tervezett megvalósításakor aktív hallgatói jogviszonnyal rendelkezik, kivétel: - Már abszolutóriumot szerzett PhD hallgatók, amennyiben a pályázat beadásához képest legfeljebb 2 évvel korábban abszolváltak. - Szakmai gyakorlatra jelentkezők esetén csak a pályázat benyújtásakor kell aktív hallgatói jogviszony legalább két lezárt félévvel rendelkezik. Megjegyzés: MA/MSc és PhD hallgatókra fenti feltétel nem vonatkozik, ugyanakkor a pályázathoz nekik is csatolniuk kell a beadás időpontjához képest legutóbbi két lezárt félévük átlagát.
