HATÁROZATLAN SZÁMNEVEK SOME A SOME-ot legtöbbször kijelentő, állító (azaz nem kérdő és nem tagadó) mondatban használjuk. Megszámlálható főnév mellett: az utána álló főnév többes számú jelentése: néhány pl. There are some apples in my basket. (Van néhány alma a kosaramban.) A SOME egyéb használata Bár az alapszabály szerint kérdő mondatban az ANY-t szoktuk használni, bizonyos esetekben a SOME-ot kell használnunk. Ez akkor fordul elő, ha IGENLŐ VÁLASZT várunk. Kínáláskor: pl. Would you like some apples? (Kérsz egy (néhány) almát?) Would you like some beer? (Kérsz (egy kis) sört?) Kéréskor: pl. Can you give me some apples? (Tudsz adni egy (néhány) almát?) Do you have some beer? I need some urgently. (Van egy kis söröd? Szükségem van egy kicsire sürgősen.) A some és az any nem csak határozatlan számnévként használható, hanem határozatlan/általános névmásként is.
