All are invited to remember our deceased loved ones, especially those whose funerals were during this past year, at a Mass of Remembrance Wednesday, November 2 7:00 PM at St. Gerald Church Reception following Please come and pray for those who have died. On the First Saturday Mass each month, we will celebrate the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick during the Liturgy. If you wish to be anointed, please sit in the first bench that begins each section. The first two sections, when you come into church, should be seated first. Father will come to you and anoint you with the Oil of the Sick. What a beautiful way to celebrate the Liturgy of First Saturday. Children s choir practice is on Sundays, after the 10:15 Mass. All interested in singing for Christmas and monthly Masses here at St. Gerald, please join us, as we create a Joyful Noise! Any questions; please call or email. Thanks. OCTOBER 30, 2016 5 YOUNG ADULT AND CAMPUS MINISTRY Msgr. Robert McClory, vicar general and moderator of the curia for the Archdiocese of Detroit, will speak about joy in evangelization at November s Theology on Tap, to be held at Detroit s Traffic Jam and Snug on Tuesday, November 8. Gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal help fund these fellowship evenings, which give young adults in our Archdiocese the opportunity to reflect on their faith in a fun and relaxed setting. Held each month on the 8th, Theology on Tap gatherings feature speakers on topics relating to religion and theology. The Young Adult and Campus Ministry Office coordinates activities for young adults ages 18 to 35, so they may grow in their faith through evangelization, catechesis, spiritual growth, liturgical formation, social events, and service. For more information on CSA-funded programs, ministries, and services, please go to www.aod.org. The 2016 Alta Loma Food Drive was a success. We collected 1,300 lbs. of food and toiletries... And exceeded last year s haul by 175 lbs! All food went to the St. Gerald Community Food Pantry and will be distributed to local individuals and families in need. All toiletries will benefit the shower program for the homeless at Samaritan Center. Our efforts were successful because of the generosity of our community and because of your generous gift of time! Thank you! Hope to see you and your family again next year. Synod Prayer God our Father, you have called us to be witnesses to Jesus and have sent us on a mission to lead all people to encounter him. Send your Holy Spirit to enlighten our minds and enkindle our hearts, so that we may grow daily as your disciples. Empower us to face bravely the challenges of our time. Keep us close to you, together with Jesus your Son, Mary our Mother, and St. Anne our patroness as we engage in Synod 16 to Unleash the Gospel. Transform us into a band of joyful missionary disciples, who will bring the message of Jesus power and mercy to every person in southeast Michigan. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. ST. GERALD PARISH, FARMINGTON, MI KNIGHTS CORNER Knights Food Drive Nets 1,300 Pounds Of Food, Toiletries, Tops Last Year s Effort Last weekend s Alta Loma food drive was a big success. Led by brother Shatomi Kerbawy, Mike Rometty and Anand Thakur, the drive in the near downtown Farmington neighborhood collected l,300 pounds of food and toiletries, an increase of l75 pounds over last year. The food went to the St. Gerald pantry; a car full of the toiletries west to the Holy Family Children s Center, the successor to Boysville. In addition to several of Shatomi s neighbors, Knights working on the drive included GK Fred Gerometta, Frank Gariepy and his wife Kathy, Peter Becks, Dave Bednarski, David Bryja and Tom McPhail. Also helping were Katie Thakur, Milbia Rometty and parishioner Nancy Lacey. Great job, guys and gals! The food arrived in time for the annual Thanksgiving distribution of baskets for the needy by the parish and the St. Vincent de Paul group. The Knights annually give that effort a boost with $1,000 in food and gas cards. At the request of the SVDP, our gift was cash. Speaking of the SVDP, brother Bob Kuhr who also is that group s treasurer, raised $1,060 by walking at the SVDP Walk for the Poor earlier this month on Belle Isle. He is accepting post walk sponsors. Reminder Bring an appetite to the Nov. 15 membership meeting and enjoy chili, brats and dogs.. MSGR. BALDWIN b e n e f i t pancake breakfast last month netted $909, thanks to the generosity of parishioners. The Knights added funds to make an even $1,000 check which Grand Knight Fred Gerometta presented to St. Anne s Meads General Manager - Jane Collins, Sr. Mary Schwindlin and Board Chair Jerry Nechal.
