Dear Parishioners, SAINT ANGELA MERICI ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TÜv{w Évxáx Éy axã büäxtçá On Monday, June 4 th, Deacon Dan Darmanin will start a 4 ½ month assignment with us at St. Angela Merici. Deacon Dan is a transitional deacon, which means that his diaconate service is a step towards becoming a priest. His internship with us will be his final assignment as a seminarian before being ordained a priest on June 1 st of 2019. Deacon Dan was born in New York and grew up in Florida. After graduating high school, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Florida. During his time in college, he felt a calling from God to the priesthood, and transferred to St. John Vianney Seminary in 2009. He finished minor seminary in 2012 and decided to work as an engineer for some time. But God called him to a retreat with Archbishop PARISH OFFICE: 901 BEVERLY GARDEN DRIVE, METAIRIE, LOUISIANA 70002 PARISH OFFICE: (504) 835-0324 SCHOOL: (504) 835-8491 WWW.STANGELA.ORG June 3, 2018 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Timothy Broglio, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of the Military. It would be Archbishop Broglio who would direct Deacon Dan to the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Deacon Dan is now happy to call New Orleans his home. Here at St. Angela, you and I will witness his first four months of preaching, teaching, serving, baptizing, and witnessing wedding vows. He will be dressed like a priest, because he is a transitional deacon. But he will not be able to celebrate Mass, hear confessions and anoint the sick, since they are reserved for priestly ministry. Both Fr. Patrick and I remember our transitional diaconate assignments. Fr. Patrick was assigned to St. Pius X in 2015, and I was assigned to St. Margaret Mary in Slidell back in 2002. I still remember the excitement of that first year of service and the anticipation of priestly ordination. I remember the strong support of parishioners. I still maintain friendships some of those families today. So, pray for Deacon Dan. He was just ordained as a transitional deacon on May 19 th and is excited about joining us in the parish. We will have a special reception for Deacon Dan on Sunday, June 17 th in the Kern Center at noon. Deacon Dan will preach the 4pm Mass on Saturday, June 16 th, and the 9:30am and 11am on Sunday, June 17 th. As always, know that Fr. Patrick and I pray for you daily. A Message from Father Beau.

Thanks again to everyone who participated in our St. Joseph s Feast Day Altar and Celebration this year! Both volunteers and guests helped to make the celebration an awesome offering of our love and devotion to St. Joseph for his intercession to God our Father. On the actual Celebration Day, approximately 900 parishioners and guests joined us for a traditional Italian St. Joseph s Day meal. Between both Sunday evening and Monday afternoon we estimate that approximately 2,300 guests visited the Altar! Once the Altar was broken down all foods, including foods remaining from our meal, were packed up and donated to the following charities which had been pre selected: Ozanam Inn, The New Orleans Mission, Covenant House, New Orleans Women & Children s Shelter and Free Indeed Home. In addition, monetary donations in the amount of $8,400.00 were collected. While a portion of the funds will be kept for seed money to be used for next year s celebration, the majority will be divided amongst the following charities: St. Angela Merici School Lunch Fund, Second Harvest Food Bank and Second Harvest Backpack Program (donations will be matched by Entergy), St. Vincent DePaul Food Bank, Catholic Charities Food for Families/Food for Seniors, The Rebuild Center at St. Joseph Lunch Program, and Jefferson Parish Council on Aging Nutrition Program. Next year s Feast Day Celebration and Altar will be held on Monday evening, March 18 th, 2018, and Tuesday, March 19 th, 2018. Our CoChairs are currently Janet Cruppi and Renee Lauland. We would like to invite any parishioner who would like to cochair the altar to contact Father Beau. The altar is a great way to get involved in parish activities and join in fellowship. It s never too early to volunteer to be a part of this exciting and rewarding experience. If you have not already signed up to be a volunteer you can do so at www.stangela.org, under St. Joseph Altar.
