Year 2 Medway has had a very busy and exciting couple of science lessons. We have been finding out how to have a balanced and healthy diet. Health & Hygiene We have learned the importance of keeping germs and nasties away by washing our hands. First we use one squoosh of soap, we rub it all over our hands and rinse off the bubbles. Finally we dry our hands thoroughly. Eat-well plate We found out which types of food are in each of the food groups and what each of these does to help our bodies to be healthy. The Year 2s enjoyed testing different food samples for each food group. We made our own Eat-well plate showing a healthy meal. Looking at the school menu we discussed which food groups were represented in each meal. Maths We investigated the question, what is our favourite breakfast in year 2? We organised the information we gained through questioning on a tally chart and displayed the results on a bar graph.
From Farm to Fork In Year 2 we learned about where our food comes from, as part of our Farm To Fork scheme. When we looked at the hot countries in Africa and we enjoyed the book 'Handa's Surprise.' In the story there are lots of exotic fruits. This made us think about the climate in different parts of the world. In Geography we looked at the map and found out which countries produce the foods we eat. We realised how lucky we are to have so many different services and facilities right on our doorsteps.
