YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE WORLD OF MEDIA Fáy András Közgazdasági, Üzleti és Postai Szakközépiskola (later referred as Fáy) from Sopron Hungary and Seinäjoen koulutuskeskus, Seinäjoen palvelualojen oppilaitos (later referred as Sepo) from Seinäjoki Finland formed a new relationship during a visit to Hungary in 2005. In January 2006 preparatory visit to Fáy was organised. During that visit the idea to have a common project related to media was confirmed. Project called Young people in the world of media started in August 2006 and ended in May. Project was funded by Sokrates / Comenius. Basically it is a language project. Students had English as a working language, but also one aim was to learn basics of Hungarian/Finnish. The cultural awareness of the students was expanded during the visits. Both these aims were achieved according to the feedback. Finnish students visited Hungary, mainly Sopron, but also Budapest, during October 2006 for two weeks. Hungarian students visited Finland, mainly Seinäjoki and Helsinki during April. Both visits included project work (collecting materials in teams), getting to know Hungarian/Finnish school system, culture, food and habits. Also trips to surroundings were fruitful. Not to mention the free-time students had together. Students professional knowledge of business communication, especially media was also broadened. The programs included guided enterprise visits, that helped to gain knowledge of different means of media. Furthermore the project gave a chance for students to gain experiences in team-work using a foreign language. Teams were formed combining Hungarian and Finnish students. Teams had a special focus on different themes (banking, cars, clothes, drinks, electronics and food) and based on their work a website and school paper were produced. This school year 2006- will be remembered later by all of us who took part in it. Lots of great memories and also friendships will last a long time. Hopefully relationship between Fáy and Sepo will continue in the future.
