XXI. CEO Summit Spirit Hotel*****, Sárvár 30 March - 1 April 2011 (Wednesday - Friday) Europe and Us Growth chances II The main topic of the 20 th (jubilee) CEO Summit was economic growth. Is the economic crisis over, are there any signs of growth and if so, where, what are the chances of domestic companies and undertakings these are the primary questions for which answers are sought. As from January 2011 Hungary will hold the office of EU Presidency for six months. The CEO Summit XXI will be held during that period and will offer an excellent opportunity of considering the problems and prospects of Europe as well as of reviewing the social and economic situation of our country in the context of Europe. The situation is not simple at all. We are far from the phase when the European Union can be considered a uniform, continent-size market of 500 million consumers and about 20 million undertakings though that would be necessary as the Union has to face rivals so huge as the United States, China and India showing increasingly spectacular developments, not to mention Brazil and, of course, Russia. Important steps have to be taken for the avoidance of making the union a mass of diverse markets showing different features, subjected to different regulations and using different currencies. The harmonization of the EU market is important for our domestic companies, too but may also make competition even fiercer. During the period of Hungary s EU Presidency prior reconciliation of the national budgets should be introduced, the harmonization of national economic policies is to be given institutional frames, the legislation process serving harmonization should be given stimulus and a new competitiveness strategy is to be launched. In the course of all this attention is to be paid to the observation of common rules by all operators. Making work plans is not easy, either unforeseeable, serious situations, different problems necessitating the introduction of prompt measures may emerge as the European society is full of tensions and the economic situation of certain EU countries is extremely uncertain. In addition to advanced international attention, the Hungarian Presidency will offer us the opportunity of influencing the development of Europe. How to do that, what results have already been achieved and what is still to be done by the operators of the domestic economy? The 21 st Summit will focus on the above problems. Since many standpoints are expected to emerge and talks will presumably be spirited, as compared to former practice we plan to provide more time to round-table discussions and debates. Spirit Hotel in Sárvár, being popular among the participants of the event and satisfying all requirements, as proven by former events, will host the Summit. 1
